Maintenance?
Its not as bad as everyone says...if you can do it yourself then you save a lot on labor.
I change my oil every 5k miles - $30
I change my drive train fluids every 15k - $45 (avg.)
You will need tires eventually and you don't have to get the most expensive.... I run Bridgestone All-seasons and like them a lot, handle and ride great on the street.
60k miles you will need to do a timing belt - this can cost some money but needs to be done.
Stock clutch wont last forever and you can do a single disc for $500 or so and a twin disc for like $1500. Labor is what will kill you on this (depends on your garages labor rates), but im planning doing my own so I don't figure labor into my stuff. I also have 32k on my stock clutch and still grabs as hard as it did at 5k miles.
Brakes you can get good brand name pads for F&R for $200.00 or cheaper if you get from autozone or one of those places and rotors from rotor pros. for all 4 for $300. I have 32k on my IX and still have the stock brakes on my car so they last a long time. My car has yet to see a track so my expenses are def. less than someone who does track there car.
If you have to go to a shop then you will pay a lot more for the labor involved but the more you can do yourself with the help of a friend then you can save money and the maintenance isn't any worse than any other car out there.

get an evo, the dealership sells a mechanic tech book that costs about $45 and it will help you in understanding what is really needed as far as maintenance. its honestly not that hard. dont forget to change your spark plugs every 10K miles.
driver tech FTW.
Best to keep on here and learn as much as you can and work on you car whenever you're able to do it yourself. Learning your car inside and out is what makes the bond with your car IMO.

The secret of affording a car like the Evo is doing the routine maintenance yourself. It is called routine maintenance because it is easy.
The major expense of service these days is labor. If you supply the labor the cost of parts and supplies makes the Evo an inexpensive car to own. Any tools you have to buy, if taken care of, will last a lifetime.
I feel for the people who are slaves to the service department.

You can afford it depending on what kind of overhead you gotta pay...
Car payment
Rent
insurance
cc bills
gas
now if you dont pay for rent insurance or the car go for it...you have more than enough money.
I personally only take home 1500 a month and I'm fine...even spent over 2000 in aftermarket parts.

For sure it will, I go to the dealer for all regular maintenance just because I get everything @ cost or free. For the bigger stuff I go to tuner shops
