New Car

Hey guys I need a little help. I currently daily drive a 1991 Mustang Gt. Its a quick 1/4mile car, however is getting older and just isnt an enjoyable reliable fuel efficent daily driver that can handle decently in snow.

I am looking for a new car, under or at the 30k mark. What would you guys recommend? If I need to spend a little more thats fine, but I want to stay around that ball park.

I am leaning towards awd because they handle much better in the snow then rwd/fwd from what i have read.

Let me know, thanks for your time.

PS: How hard is it to mod an evo to hit 11s, as in, how much $$ roughly would it take?

haha I'm certain everyone will say go for the Evo here. I'd say start hunting for 40-50k milage VIII which are in the low $20Ks (Someone correct me on this). If you want something newer, you could buy the IX for mid to high $20k.

I believe you can hit 11s on pump for under 2-3 grand. You'll need basic bolt-ons, cams, and maybe more. Pump or race gas?

AWD is a beautiful thing. You'd be surprised how much you can start jerking the wheel hard in the rain without loss of traction. Scares passengers.

Buy a used Evo 9 for around $26,500, and spend about $4,000 - $5,000 on parts, and you can be in the 11's. Evo's are VERY fun, but EXTREMLY addicting!
You can't go wrong with an Evo! Go test drive one!

Doesn't sound to bad. I am really getting tired of my mustang in the rain/snow, its just flat out not safe to drive lol.

Out of all the different evo's, money set aside, which is the best one to grab and to through a few thousand at in mods?

You would want an RS if you can find one. They are the lightest (no radio, no ABS, no sound deadening, no wing). Since they don't have all of those things, they aren't as much as the others. If you want a drag car, I'd say go with the RS or the GSR, stay away from the MR

Like he said though, it's a daily driver. So the RS wouldn't really be the best choice in my opinion.

I don't think the RS is what im looking for. I want a very reliable daily driver that can be taken to the track on the occasion or keep up with my buddies that run in the 11s and 10s.

I just need something that can handle iowa/illinois winter weather that doesnt get horrible gas milage and has a little bit of power behind "all" the wheels with decent looks.

I don't care about ABS, but radio and sound deadening would be nice, dont really care about the wing as I won't be going over 60-70 most of the time.

SE is a good choice because you still have the strong 5 speed tranny, ABS, stereo, but you also have those nice lightweight BBS wheels.

I've got a feeling that it's going to be pretty difficult to grab one around my area. Either im going to have to drive/fly out somewhere to get one, or grab a brand new evo from a dealership.

I guess I can start calling around the dealerships around here and seeing what they have.

It took me a few months to find one and that is when they still made them.

the IX is your best bet, go for an SE if you can find one. quite a few people have hit 11s with less than $1500 invested.

aside from stopping - AWD and good tires are pretty much the bees knees in the rain and snow.

the problem is finding a low mileage IX for a good price. In New England for example - you're going to pay way more than whats reasonable. Good luck!

I would say for you stay away form the RS. From your post you don't sound comfortable driving in bad weather and with the lack of ABS in the RS it's not gonna be any better. Now to choose between the IX or VIII. It all depends. I say if you're gonna do heavy modding ex; cams , big turbo, stroker kit ect you should try to find a low milage 05 cuz ur gonna save a bit of money compare to the IX and with the mods they should make very similar power. Now if you're planning on doing just bolt ons i would get an IX since they make a bit more power witout going insane with tthe MODS. My .02
