Quick Warranty question(refunding warranty)

I have searched slightly, but not found this.

If you know you are going to void your warranty, before you ever do can you contact the dealer, and be refunded the pro rated amount of the warranty that you bought into on the car?

Just wondering, i mean no reason to continue paying on the warranty on the car each month if you can get a chunk of change back...

if you are the first owner, there is no pro-rated amount because it was built in and free upon purchase of the car. If you bought it used, it depends on the contract you signed if it allows you to prorate the payment.

I bought an aftermarket warranty because the Honda Dealer I bought my EVO from told me my warranty would expire at 36000 miles. I paid $2000 with the financing but within a week I found out that I had a warranty with Mitsubishi until 60000 miles I went back and canceled the warranty. Because it was factored into the financing I wasn't given any money back. They reduced the amount from the amount borrowed. So basically I removed a year's worth of pymts from my debt.

Most supplemental warranties sold through dealers offer a prorated clause for getting a refund. You should have received a policy. Read it for details on getting your money.

never buy a warranty on a used car, my brother did on a car a few years back, and when the clutch went out, it was NOT covered by the warranty.

Depends on how specific the warranty is. My wife and i paid $2500 for a good warranty on her MDX and a few weeks later it paid for itself when the tranny went out. It would have been over $4000 for the tranny and labor.

If you bought the extentended warranty, then you can go ahead and cancel it.
They just credit your loan account.

Same thing happened to me when i got the evo, I cancel it two after
i bought the car. It's useless if the car has 10 year/100000 miles.

Ok, thanks guys. My car came with the full mitsu warranty. but figure they wont cover a car with stg 3 head porting or a 37r turbo kit.

thought i might be able to put some of that towards my build.

My buddy had a VW jetta, and they claim he voided his warranty, and he fought with them for a few weeks, and they pro rated the last 2 years of his warranty and he got back a nice chunk of change.

Clutch is a wear and tear item, I wouldn't expect it to be covered by a warranty. Same with brake pads etc, filters etc. Most warranties are the same way, even the manufacturers warranty.

if you have that done to your car, the extended service contract wont cover any repairs either, just like mitsu wont.
