Now, anyone know how hard it will be to find one.
I am relocating to orange county, CA soon, so that should make things easier.

03-04 EVO's all had aluminum hoods and fenders
03-04 EVO's all had HID's except the 04' RS

05-06 RS, MR, and 06' SE's have the aluminum roof

05-06 EVO's only came with HID's if it has the SSL package

Here is my advice. Look for a base 9 GSR. You won't have a sunroof and you will have the 5 speed your wanting. HID's can be upgraded later with a kit from Ebay for cheap.

I have exactly what your looking for in my garage with 10,600 miles on it and is stock besides a cat back. How much money you have and how bad you want it.

If you really do plan on putting an HTA35R on an Evo. Chances are you will have to tune out the mivec anyway, i know alot of tuners remove the stock mivec cam timing changes because it gets complex when using an aftermarket turbo. Which would make it the same as an Evo8. If you want a 9 do not get a 6spd, that tranny is not built for that kind of abuse and will break on an HTA35R for sure. Yea you can get a built one but keep in mind 6spd trannies arent good for drag. the advantage to the evo8 is its cheap and since your gona have to fully build the engine anyways you might as well rip apart something thats cheap. In its stock form though the 9 is much nicer and does spool faster even with a larger compressor housing, and responds better to mods.

I love my Evo. So much that when I sold my 03' I bought my 06' within 3 months. It was more of a joke on selling it, but I guess everything is for sale for the right amount of money.

Like I said in my last post though. I would buy a base 9. That way you have no sunroof, 5 speed and be able to get the color you want. It'll save you some money in the long run. No need to spend the extra money on a car with stuff you don't want.

Yea you can buy the lip with the three underpieces from RussellM on here for $318 shipped. As far as the ebay HID's alot of people on here use them, and have been very happy with them. I never have cause I have a MR. Search around, you'll find your answers.

Yes...you can buy a SE lip from Mitsu for a couple hundred bucks. I know there are plenty of people that use the Ebay HID kits, but if you want to do it right, but a pair of JDM MR headlights and put the Ebay HID's in them and that way you'll be able to adjust them when/if you lower cause the beam will point further down to the ground taking away visibility.

When I lowered my 03' I had to manually adjust (alot of people did it) the headlights and raise them up higher. There is a thread on here about it.

Just cause I'm nice here it is....https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...5&goto=newpost

Just think about what you REALLY want and what your REALLY want to do to the car. I think it would be down right stupid to spend the extra money on a MR to take the 6 speed out of it and swap it with a 5 speed. If you were to put coilovers on it you've basically spent more money on the car and more money on converting it to a GSR model.

Save yourself the money and buy a base GSR and do the little cheap things that you want. Its all part of the modding process. Besides the aluminum roof and 6 speed, everything is pretty damn cheap to buy and put on your car.

^ yeah i figured out i definately dont want to go the MR route thanks to you guys.
I can do the lip and HID's, if i go with base 9.
It sounds like the 9 SE is a good deal from what I have read. How much more are they than a base 9? they are less than an MR correct?

What the heck is a GSR, I thought that was only available in japan...

I plan to mod the car alot, I have the 'mod bug' real bad...started with my subie.
So I want to save money for mods.
I plan to get BR TBE first thing. I have a hallman pro already. I have a walbro 255. I have Aquamist HSF-5. I want GSC S2 cams right away. I have my tactrix cable and i will be road tuning myself with my gtech.
Then its BC racing coilovers and whiteline front and rear sway bars and wheels...so i dont care about bbs wheels, or bilsteins obviously.
Later, after saving much money, its the BR HTA35R and supporting mods.
Would it be smart to consider an VIII? since i want those cams right away? the standard 8 would come with the HID's too right? I hate the front bumper though. how much would it be to get the 9 front bumper and SE lip? is it worth it? i love the jdm rear bumper too (its not standard on any usdm evo is it?)
what all did they change visually between the 8's and 9's?
thanks guys.

My SE stickered for almost $34,000. You can get them for around $28,000 or a little more with low miles. They are less than a MR when new.

GSR is basically what EVO owners call the base EVO when comparing them to a RS, SE, or MR.

You could buy a 8 if you like. It would save you money in the long run, but finding a low mileage one may be a little harder than finding a low mileage 9. The only year EVO's came standard with HID's were 03-04' minus the 04' RS. The only problem is finding one without a sunroof, color, and mileage you want.

I'm not sure how much it would cost to convert a 8 bumper to a 9 bumper, but the JDM 9 rear bumper is about $699 shipped from what I've seen and it is not standard on any USDM model. IMO....if you want it to look like a 9, just buy a base 9 in the color you want and add the parts you want.

Visually....the only things they really changed was the front bumpers and wheels from the 8's and 9's.

Like I've said 4 times already.....buy a base 9 and use that as your blank canvas and go from there. Why spend say 28,000 on a SE when you can buy a base 9 for like 25,000 and put a $300 SE lip on it and a $250 HID kit? See where I'm going with this?

The only real reason why I have a SE is because the guy that bought my 04' Cobra was selling his EVO. He wanted my car and I wanted his. I wanted a red SE, but they didn't make them. I wasn't too crazy about graphite gray, but beggers can't be choosers I guess.
