Help: Evo + Rain = wet passenger floor

So, earleir this week CA actually got rain. i got in the car in the morning after it rained, and noticed that the passenger floor was sopping wet, and there was watter dribbling down the HVAC blower and the passenger kick panel.

The door was shut completely, and the windows were all the way up. So, I checked the wheather strip on the door, checked the wiring loom, checked the drip rails... nothing out of teh ordinary. So, i pulled out the cabin filter and it too was sopping wet, and covered in the leaves from the tree i park under at work.

So, i was thinking that there might be a drain that is clogged underneath the HVAC intake vent (between the hood/windscreen) that mght be clogged.

Anyone know if there is a drain there? or possibly know if this is a common problem?

...i also noticed it the last time it rained, but i thought it was just from the window or something...

can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance

I didn't read passed a wet passenger floor. Are you sure it is water and not coolant from an unhooked heater hose?

I remember reading that there was a problem similar to this with our 2002/2003 Lancers. Although I can't remember exactly what the problem was.

Here is an instance with an Evo:

I guess there is a high possibility that it is a clogged drain.

^yes im sure because my radiator level is just fine, and this was while the car was sitting out all night.

I had a similar problem with my old car as well, thats why i thought this... but it was from the sunroof drains being clogged.

Im almost 99% sure something is clogged under the HVAC intake

Have you installed anything through the firewall on the pass. side? If so water could be entering through there if it is not properly sealed. I have also seen clogged ac drain tubes, but thats usually a problem only when the ac is being used not rain.

I had that problem too. It was where they ran the wires for the gauge package in my MR through the firewall. It wasn't sealed properly so the water leaked (actually poured) into the passenger side of the car. Took it to the dealer they sealed it up and replaced the carpet. Fine ever since. The RS has those gauges as well, yes? Could be your problem, or not. Just a thought.

buddy of mine just had this problem not long ago in his 06 MR and found out it was the grommet in the firewall that the vaccum line for the boost gauge passed through...could be something to look at if you have the stock gauges...

I had this happen in my 05 VIII bro. I had the body shop repaint my car and my windshield got cracked when they were resetting it or something so they had to replace the whole windshield they said. Someone had forgotten to re seal the drain and when it rains the passenger side floor was flooding. They knew exactly what it was and they fixed it and it hasnt doen it since. There is a drain over there and if you havent done anything recent its prolly just clogged

Not sure if that helps but thats what happend to me and thats what caused it.
