I need some help

Well see, I'm currently trying to buy a used 05 Evo VIII..but this is actually my first turbo/manual car...and I've never really been into modding on my previous cars..so I'm sort of lost after reading the details on this. If you would take the time to read/help me out on this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Details on the car:

"Up for auction here is my 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution viii. It is has white exterior and black interior. I am the second owner of this vehicle. I purchased this from a friend of mine in Charleston SC. He ordered the car new, as I would have ordered it; no sunroof, nor leather seats. It instead has the suede seats with blue cloth centers. I purchased the vehicle from him with 3,300 miles on the clock. His company GSC motorsports had performed a few light tasteful mods to the vehicle that came together nicely to make this a great all around car. The vehicles brakes were upgraded with D.O.T. legal Stop-tech stainless steal brake lines, and high quality motul fluid. The handling was improved with Hotchkis sport springs, a Hotchkis adjustable rear sway bar and a Cusco prototype aluminum rear trunk brace bar. A few tasteful exterior mods, such as the taillights, mini antenna and the Euro rear badge were also added. The interior was kept stock but for the Defi boost gauge, Innovate wideband oxygen sensor gauge, custom GSC aluminum pedal covers and a B&M short shifter to crispen up shift response. The engine and drive train was lightly massaged with the basic bolt-ons. The intake tract was freed up by a custom GSC intake, with K&N, innercooler pipe kit. Boost is modulated by a Hallman Pro manual boost controller. In anticipation of future mods, an ARP M11 cylinder head stud kit, an ACT clutch and a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump was added. The exhaust is has been improved using a Injen 2005 MR test pipe, and B&B cat back exhaust. This exhaust improved airflow without killing your ears. Other mods included a stainless steel clutch line, a GSC aluminum oil catch can and a GSC power division mini battery clutch kit complete with Odyssey drycell mini battery.

I purchased the vehicle just as I have previously described to you. I drove the car sporadically since purchasing the car in 2005 as it was my 2nd and sometimes 3rd vehicle. In anticipation of installing a larger turbo kit, I purchased a Slowboy racing stage 2 shortblock. I contacted GSC once again to complete the install. To date the new engine has been driven roughly 1200 miles since install. The oil was changed at 100 miles, 500 miles and now at 1200 miles. I swapped over to synthetic oil on the 3rd change. I did not boost the engine during the first 200 miles nor did I rev the engine past 4000 rpm. between the second and third oil changes I gradually increased the boost and rpm. Now after the third change, I have turned the boost up to the stock 18 psi. I still have not revved the engine past the red line. The car runs great at this point and has not used any oil at any point. Before the shortblock install the engine was dynoed at Batlground in Atlanta, Ga. The engine made ~320 awp on 93 octane @ 20 psi of boost. The computer has not been flashed and the timing and fuel curves are still factory.

After putting some miles on the new engine, I was going to have it tuned and flashed. I have not done this yet. According to the Innovate wideband the car currently runs safely in the 10.0-10.8 A/F range."

From what I've been reading, basically I'm going to need a new flash & tune due to the new "Slowboy racing stage 2 shortblock" that was installed? And if so, will the car still be safe to drive without the tune for a couple of weeks? I've never had a turbocharged car before so I know nothing much about them...just someone help guide me out on this situation. Thank you!

BTW, how much usually would a flash & tune plus a dyno cost?...thanks

Are you trying to buy the Evo from an auction? And the Evo already has some mods? How much do that person want for the Evo?

That car should be fine to run until your tune. It really doesn't have any power adders that will mess with the efficiency without a tune. By the way, 10.0 to 10.8 AFR is extremely rich.

Ive seen that car. Its white, for about 25K right? Before you get into modding, it would be wise to really master driving standard and getting used to the "stock" power of the evo. That car is really clean if its the one Im thinking of. Once you do master the driving thing, modding will be fun. Everything that is bolted on the engine can be replaced it seems. Also, a flash tune isnt something I would do personally, Every car reacts a little different to mods, so its best for a one on one session. Talk to mellon.
p.s. go HTA GT35R

You can't go wrong with Chris. Speaking of, I got my Innovate LC-1 working like a charm and should be ready for a new tune pretty soon Chris.
