K&N Typhoon Intake For Evo IX MR
K&N Typhoon Intake For Evo IX MR
I'm new to Evos and my Evo IX MR is fully stock and I want to get an intake system for it. I'm thinking about getting the K&N Typhoon Intake and I just wanted to know if anyone has this on their Evo IX and what their experience with this intake is like. Does it cause any driving problems like bogging or even stalling? Does it screw up the A/F ratio? Does it or can it make the stock MR blow off valve noticeably louder? And I also want to know if there's any noticeable hp gain from this intake system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Would you need a retune with the adapter/cone system (or even the AEM intake) or could you run on a STOCK tune.
Thanks,

you dont need any intake at all, people running 430hp run the stock intake.
just get a drop in filter like %80 of the people here do. But if you insist on an intake yes you should really get a tune. Just dont get the typhoon intake, it causes MAF fluncuation problems.

I used a K&N panel filter for about a year and they aren't bad at all, but I was doing all my mods so for $80 I thought why not? The car is much louder on boost, but I don't feel any real power difference. I'm untuned at the moment, but I will be tuned very shortly.
I wouldn't suggest getting an intake/cone filter until you do other mods first and plan on a tune soon.

i just took the K&N filter system off in favor or an AEM short ram intake (with included dry cone filter). I was really surprised about the amount of gunk buildup in the stock intake pipe. I am not saying it was the oil from the K&N but it was odd to see that much composite after only the 15,000 miles it has on it. Nevertheless, the ram intake sounds amazing! it really brings out the blow off valve noise as well as the turbo spool up in my 06 evo ix mr. It was definitely worth the few hundred bucks not just for the sound, but noticeable power gains at the wheels. I had my computer retuned after that new headers, downpipe and cat delete, and catback (all greddy) and it is running like a dream.

NO!!!!!!!young jedi just dont do it........LOL
a simple cone intake from like BR or ETS will do you just fine.....you shouldnt have any issues and a tune would be nice but i would wait until FMIC, MBC and stuff that way you can tune it all together and get some gains.....

Wow, this thread is back.
I don't like the fact K&N filters have tons of oil around the edges. Too much of a chance the MAF Sensor could get oiled and damaged. Buschur = Dry filters ftw.
