radiator fan acting funny...
hey guys,
my radiator fan is acting weird lately
sometimes it stays on after the car has shut off. it never did that before.
this morning when i started my car (it's been sitting all night - cold start), the fan turned on right away, and would turn on and off randomly. it would turn on for 5 seconds, then off for 2, then on for 3, then off for 1, then on for 5.....and so on.
it did that for about 2 minutes, until car warmed up.
and like i mentioned above, it would stay on sometimes after the car turns off for about 5-7 seconds.
any ideas why this is happening?

no, AC is not on when the fan is doing it.
my problem is not the fans that blow air inside the car (AC or heater), i'm talking about the radiator fan behind the radiator.
is there a sensor that controls when the fan comes on and off?

Ive seen this in some older hondas before and never saw any real problems as a direct result. There should be a sensor that tells the fan when to turn on.I used to have an integra in which I installed a low temp thermo switch(fan switch) which turn the fan on at a lower engine temp to keep it cooler .Maybe you should try to change out your oem one.I found this on another forum.

Its not exactly what you are looking for but it does talk about what I mentioned above.

I thought I was the only one having this issue. I also have this EXACT same thing happening, and it started suddenly and continuing to do so.
I wish someone could help as to determine what the cause may be.
Any help appreciated.

The evo8's have a recall for the fan control module. The dealer will replace it even after the warranty expires. Mine started doing the same thing two months ago AGAIN! I had the recall done 3 years ago, sooo know its out of my pocket :-) It's $146 from the dealer nearest me. Have the dealer run your vin# to see if the recall pertains to your car...

alright guys, thank you all.
i have an appointment with my dealer on saturday. i called in ahead and the parts department has 3 fan control modules in stock.
i described the problem and the tech said that this is the most likely problem.
i also had him run my vin, but nothing came up. mine is an 05 gsr.
i'll post here after i return from the delaer.
thanks again!
