Mivec IX vs VIII
I have had an Evo 8 GSR and currently have a Evo 9 RS. I personaly love the performance and power my IX puts down over my Evo 8. The smartest thing to do is keep your current evo, or you will end up spending more on trading it in and buying the new one. GL
I would have all intentions to win. I have been autocrossing now for about 5 seasons. First in my 1gen awd talon not setup whatsoever for auto x but got me hooked. Then bought the S2000 and ran it in AS to the rulebook for 3 seasons.
Now driving the MR in AS on horrible street tires and staying within a half sec of comp tire cars, and smoking them in the rain....AWD FTW!!
i supose i could cut weight in the MR and be just as competitive...the other reason for the trade would be for track days i read on here that the MR trans does not hold up well to the heat . Also from what ive read a trans cooler helps that.
Dont get me wrong going from a IX MR to a IX RS is not going to really change my financial situation but going to an VIII would help since the cost is alot less.
But with all the feedback and by the sounds of it the IX would be my best option for what i intend to do.

I would just drop weight in your MR and then when/if the trans goes, get a 5 spd built and put it in there. At that point, there is no real difference in cars, depending on what you do to drop weight of course.
That is the reason I went with the SE, to get the lightweight components that I wouldn't bother upgrading (i.e. Aluminum Roof) but still have the 5 spd. I could drop the addition weight in time by removing ABS, power windows, sound deadening, etc..., but probably never will.

your going to hear from a lot of viii owners that mivec isn’t worth the extra dough. i challenge you, talk to any real tuner, and they will tell you the same thing, the variable valve timing in the ix's allow for better and more tuning.
uneducated viii owners will tell you that upgraded cams in a ix aren’t really worth it, but thats only because whoever tuned their car doesn’t know squat. do a search on here, and call around to a couple big evo tuning shops, and they will tell you that a mivec head can put down bigger numbers than a non mivec head.

I think because most of the high Hp cars are Evo 8, there is a perception that the 9 head is less capable. My view and experience is that its just perception.
