Is the Evo considered a DSM?
They all share the 4G63 right? but is the Evo a DSM, would something like http://www.dsm.org and the "A thousand questions already answered" section apply?
I'm totaly new to 4 Cyl cars espc, imports... just wondering where i can answer a lot of my newbified questions with out bugging a lot of people

EVO is not A dsm but the 4g63 in this car is very similar to the 4g63 in the eclipses.... The DSM guys know alot about this platform and the info on that site is very good and may apply to alot of issues we may have with our evos.
Almost all of the mods and other go fast ideas will work for these motors.... just read. and good luck.
and yes I have owned 2 DSMs before owning the EVO.

Some people feel yes, but I think the defining characteristic of DSM's is the fact that they were built at the Diamond Star Motors plant in Normal, IL. Seeing as how all the Lancers (Including Evos) are built in Japan I don't think they qualify.
EDIT: Damnit, RaX! For some reason I couldn't find that thread despite several searches.

I guess it seems like its more of a 4g63 club to me... I dont want to be left out with no group of people to hang out with !
I'm gonna call it a DSM wanab and hang out with those guys cuz they'll be able to help me with my mods 'n **** anyway... plus the differences seem very small and technical to me right now...

It's head and shoulders above a stock DSM without question. The drivetrain is a bit more sophisticated despite the apparently fragile stock clutch though so it doesn't have much in common with the DSMs aside from the 4g63 engine code and AWD. ...That's not really a bad thing though.
well none of the DSM's in the car club i hang with ( AlaskaMotorSports ) are stock (at least not many) plus i dont want to try and form a club with the 5 other evo's that are in this state.... so i'm just gonna be the "notquite DSM, DSMer"

good move !!! most of those guys are really great with these motors and they should be a great wealth of knowledge.... dont listen to all of those other evos owners out there that will try to make a huge difference between the dsms and our evos.........
Look at most of the tuners that are workign with the evo most of them are the guys that have been tunning DSMs for years.... and the 4g has been around for YEARS....so most of the info is there for the taking.....
and jsut becuse there are differences doesnt mean that there shoudl be a difference in your attitude towards tunning... hang with the people that have good experience/conceptual/theoretical knowledge about modded 4g63's you cant go wrong there......
Good luck.!!!
