Cleaned up this area, in preparation for the arrival of the TRE TC. This was super dirty, they sprayed that nasty undercoat on here also. I clamped down those pesky vacuum tubes also

I did a bunch of research on my new clutch and landed on the act hdss also. If you want it to feel stock and aren’t looking for more than 500whp, it should be a great choice for you. I would replace your flywheel if you are still on stock also and you don’t need the super lightweight ones.
Also make sure you are checking torque numbers, as that's how clutches are rated. HDSS can hold eleventy billion hp, but torque is limited.

Absolutely…I left off torque just because they are close to the same value on many of our setups but VERY important in getting the right clutch for a desired setup. For anyone wondering, ACT HDSS is rated for 530 ft/lbs.
Yup, the hdss is great. Still holding fine for my 640whp but I keep torque around 420 wtq, which is right around what the clutch is rated for.
I however never launch the car or drag race, still has seen a lot of abuse on track though.
The last ACT I ran on my old red 9 was great, but my new one feels funky compared to my old one. I've always run the SD vs the SS also because ACT had an issue with the springs popping out back in the day and I didn't want to drop my whole trans because of one of those pesky springs.
I had awful lockout issues with two ACTs in a row, but I tend to launch a lot and the pedal adjustment can only do so much. I'm giving ACT another chance and upgrading to the twin. Reminder: the cracked clutch pedal assembly nightmare can be avoided with a lighter pedal. It's a discontinued part plus a pain to work on. I would only consider lighter twin plate clutches because of that.
Also, car was down all year, long story. Got it back, finally running fine, drove great. Obviously, the sensible thing to do was immediately buy bigger injectors and take it back to the shop for a retune.

I am going to try out that new ACT twin plate when this HDSS dies. BTW, I have zero lock out problems and I rev to 9k.
Took the coilovers off and put the stock stuff back on. Alignment tomorrow and this thing is officially going up for sale. Going to give it a bath here in a minute. First time in a year!
Just this weekend had this tired old OEM clutch/flywheel pulled out and replaced on my Evo 8 and a new ACT HDSS installed. Only put on a couple miles but feels good so far. On the topic of cylinder replacement...my tuner said I shouldn't need to replace the clutch cylinders as that is more of an issue on the Evo X's.
I think some are run a tired slave cylinder or never adjusted their clutch pedal.
I've had the Exedy equivalent of the ACT HDSS clutch. Great for a mid horsepower daily.
Now that you mention that... I swapped my clutch line out so I believe I've deleted some sort of restrictor pill, if I remember right. Not sure, but I've definitely had zero issues with an HDSS but have seen a few installer error problems, in the past.
