A question 400+whp Evo's...
i swore to myself my evo would stay stock.
so much for that.
420whp on pump , i sold it.
To the op, your sounding like me when i came up with reasons to get rid of my car.
If you dont track or do any type of racing ect.. logically its a waste of money. yea i enjoy cars and modding them but spending money on alky, goin threw clutches, tires, matinence, gets really old really quick.

I definitely understand your point. Most people (including me) the stock evo would be to much car for them at the track, but its just so much ****ing fun going fast! The smartest way would be going to HPDE 1,2,3,4 and make upgrades when your ready but who has the patience for that.
For me, I'm almost the exact opposite. Why dump a bunch of money into your DD if it sees the track only several times a year. I'd much rather put the money into a great streetable DD. I know of an evo rolling around these parts on a DD street tune pushing 540awhp and not only does it still drive well under partial throttle but its a monster when you get on it.
I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like the evo was really quick when I got it. Now that its wearing off a little, I'm already looking for ways to safely squeeze more power out of it. I think most of us don't really care to consider whether or not the car will see its full potential. Just to know its there to play around with is good enough. Kind of like being a gun owner: I'm nearly certain I'll never shoot anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't like to point it at people to scare them!! All joking aside what I mean to say is that it doesn't mean I still don't take it out every now and again and blow up clay pigeons and shoot up old televisions

you can have tons of more fun and still not exceed any legal speed limit with a 400+HP car. The more HP you have the more faster you are at hitting the HW 65mph speed limit. then you just push the brakes so you dont go any faster. All legit and cops cant do nothing to you for going 0-60mph in 3 seconds.
The reality is EVERYONE only needs a 98HP slow car to get you through life. But thats just not fun at all. We all like to show our personality in every way possible and a car is one major one to show it in.
Everyone only needs a small boob tube television to make do. But thats no fun so everyone buys the plasma 50 inch TV.
EVeryone only need 1 pair of shoes, but thats no fun. You want to be your own person and show your personality so you buy many.

boostfiend,
I don't think you have the addiction yet that some of us do! haha
I say it all the time. Speed is like a drug. The faster you go the faster you want to go. It's a serious addiction.
I thought at one point that 10.8's in my car was just amazing and all I needed. That quickly turned into 9.90's, that went to 9.50's and now the car is running 9.0's at 159 mph and you know I have to get it in the 8's then.
Perfect street manners, I can drive it anywhere.
Most of us are sick with the dreaded "go fast" disease.

David I have the addiction that you speak of but I usually only upgrade when necessary. I track a lot and sometimes I drive my car but most of the time it sits on a college campus. That being said I love going fast but my rendition of fast is through turns not on a highway, not a 1/4 mile etc.
I just can't enjoy my car enough on a public highway without worrying about getting pulled over. I currently have cosworth m3's, valvesprings, retainers, full exhaust, boost controller, tune, ported manifold, fmic, coilovers, swaybars, and things of the sort but it just stop being fun after I hit a certain power level. On the street I can do a pull but I either A.) realize I'm closing in on 65 and shut down which is all too quick B.) end up at 80 and HAVE to shut down before I go to jail.
For the few seconds the rush isn't worth it and if I want to cruise I'd rather not do it in a car that has 14kg/16kg spring rates. I'm beginning to understand though we're all enthusiasts, we all have different backgrounds, and the difference is what drives the hobby because we can all learn something from one another.
To other OP's, I never said leave your evo stock but 400+whp is a lot for the street and can easily get anyone in trouble. Take for instance if you need one of your friends to drive your car then that's just asking for it right there. I'd wager that 97%+ of the big turbo cars do not have owners who can full out drive them, but like others have said its there for comfort and bragging. I just posted this to get an understanding from other members as to why they modify, I hope more people contribute to this thread to provide a broader insight for others

There are alot of guys that will drop every dollar they earn into there car, like me, who will never track them. But in a way to say that that in and of itself is a waste, is wrong. Because wouldn't it be even more of a waste to actually track the car? Haha, I mean cause you'll have to pay to track it, pay for any saftey equipment if needed and worst of all you'll have to pay to replace parts that might break.
Not going against modding cause I'm totally addictted to it but just trying tell OP that either way its a waste. There's no real justification for it not being a waste unless your a pro and getting paid to do it.
