I'm in college too, and basically got a scholarship which helped big time.

You are the exception not the norm. Not many people only spend what they have. Credit is really what makes the world go round. Without that, civilization would really fall apart. I guess you haven't really learned about economics in college yet.

I'm wondering the same thing. How does a 17-19 year old pay cash for a car without outside assistance? We're not talking about a $5k Honda, but at least a$19k investment. I could possibly see a 19 year old saving all their pennies while working and being able to accomplish this but I don't see a 17 year old doing it. I'm not saying it can't be done but please enlighten me so I can train my 16 year old son.

Grants and scholarships are your friend.

I've been working as long as I can remember at a hazardous / non haz waste disposal plant (certified for everything too). I do everything under the sun. There is one part that does stand out that helped me really rake in the cash, but thats my lil secret. I'm a hard worker, I won't stop what I'm doing unless I get dehydrated, or get attacked by bees.

And no, my parents didn't pay for my car nor my bike. I don't work there right now because I'm goin to school kinda far away from my work. Hence my tight budget right now...No mods for the evo until I can muster up about $1200 for new riding gear. And thats not gonna happen till summer. I still got "money" but I won't touch that because thats not my "spending money". It's kinda weird how I divide it up.

What was really a shocker to my parents was when I came home with a new bike. First thing my mom said, "you just bought yourself a coffin", even though the other bike I had sold like 2 weeks before was my first one. My dad told me I should have just gotten another blue one, so maybe she wouldn't have noticed!

Edit: And yea, tell your kid to kick *** in high school so maybe he can get a scholarship or grants or both.

Actually I don't need to take econ for my major. If what you are saying is true, then I'm sure there are plenty of others to keep the world goin round, and I'm sure it will do fine without my help.

By your explanation I would say you are definitely the exception and not the rule. Keep on doing what you are doing and you should do just fine.

My son is a 4.0 National Honor Society student so hopefully he will get a full ride scholarship somewhere. Thanks.

I only got a 3.5 when I graduated, but then again, I think I could have done better.

I have done a ton of different things at that place. One of the most memorable is when my company was contracted to the CTA (chicago transit authority) to do emergency response(even though this was a bit after the accident). Well, this time one of their buses lost control and hit a support for a bridge head on. Well when it impacted, the front of the bus crumpled and basically hit the driver's head with so much force it knocked it clean off. Wanna guess what we did? Well, we were there to remove the bits and pieces of his spatterings (the rest of the head and body were already removed) and decontaminate the bus, so they could rebuild it. We went in there fully suited up. It was pretty gruesome. The stench of deteriorating human flesh, to say the least, is very strong and will make most people hurl. Fun times!

I don’t know about an Evo budget, but I certainly live on a family budget. Meaning I only get new toys for my car when the family has extra money that can be spent and not savings money either.

I guess not getting many date nights (I am craving lobster so much right now) helps though. Getting someone to watch a 2 year old overnight can sometimes be a hard thing to do. I did just get new tires, getting them put on and an alignment next Tuesday, I only got those because I needed them if not for that I would have waited.

I do still have my Walbro sitting in the garage to install as soon as I get time and my tank is low enough. So I still have something to do. I need something to do on my weekends off or I get stir crazy.

If you're on a budget, I can give you some ideas.

Howabout you sell your kidney for a stage3 head, and your left hand for a set of wheels?
