Have to vent
In my expirience I have found that a few service writers are really just full of $hit. It's also been my expirience that you get more with sugar than you do salt. It would be better to work with the guy than to become his enemy.
That service writer is only following guidlines set forth by Mitsubishi corporate. You, I and the service writer knows that the brake fluid you supplied meets and most likely exceeds the manufacturers specifications. But becuase the bottle doesn't say mitsubishi brake fluid, that service writer isn't going to take a chance and put your fluid in. Since that fluid didn't come from his parts department he can't be sure of the quality of it. and especially with braking systems, that is just too much of a liablity for him to accept.
The service writer could have taken a different approach with you. What he could have said is this," wow this valvoline fluid is good stuff but unfortunetly I cannot use it because it has not been tested or endorsed for use on mitsubishi cars. While your car is under warranty I would recomend that you use Mitsubishi branded products because since they are recomended by Mitsubishi, there won't be a problem when any warranty issues arise."
My advice is to have them flush your brake lines and put whatever fluid Mitsubishi recomends in it. then later at home, Flush it your self and put the valvoline stuff in it. As long as it is the same color, Mitsubishi, short of a chemical analysis would never know the difference.

Find yourself a better service department!!! Man after dealing with all of subaru's crap if mits gives me crap about my evo(when I get one) I will blow the car up and walk away.

Most service writers do not know much about any car really.. I've known a couple of dealer service writers and they are morons.. They simply write up your car, give you assumptions on what the problem might be, and send it off to the techs to figure out.. Granted, if they keep getting the same kind of car in for the same problem (ex. clutch) and the techs keep saying that it's all from abuse, then that's what they'll keep saying to you!
A new car like the EVO, they know nothing about.. Their training goes as far as watching a video on the car.. Sad that we (the consumer) have to deal with thier incompetance..

I did give them a lot of sugar when I first got there. I've dealt with many shops and service depts in the past and since I always have problems I try my hardest to get on the managers good side. But some times people are just, well dicks.
I ended up talking to another local mitsu service department and the srvc mng explained it to me better. Pretty much what you said. He also mentioned that his service can't really stand behind someone else's product. I told him that's completely understandable and that's all the other dealer had to tell me. Rather than some bold out, warranty voiding, lie.
Regardless I think I'm done with this dealerships service for now. I'm going to start visiting the one farther away and see how their service is.

Man, this stuff just gets me steamed.
Sorry to hear about you problems with the dealership. I run into this kind of problem at work all the time. I'm an engineer for an airline and mechanics will come up asking for a substitute for a specified material called out in a manual. In many cases the manufacturer will call out a spec, like BMS5-95 sealer. I have to explain to the mechanic that BMS5-95 is a spec, not a brand name. There are many products that meet that specification and they go by many names. Some get it and some don't. I guess the fact that our Evo manuals call out DOT 3/4 brake fluid, not Mitsu brand fluid, is just a concept that is beyond your service manager.
On a side note, I started a thread in the SE regional forum trying to find out what Atlanta area service departments are good to Evo owners and which are not. We have dealer boycott lists for price gouging in this forum, why not lists for service departments that perform shoddy service or give us a hard time?
Best wishes,
f86sabre

Mister2zx3,
I sent KK (forum administrator) an e-mail to see if it would be possible to set something like that up. I hate it when an ignorant service department bullies someone. On the flip side, I would gladly leave my car (and money) with a service department that knows what it is doing and has been recommended by my piers.
Best wishes,

I took my evo in today to get the pitpass oil change and some other stuff done. they told me that the steering wheel supposed to be cockk blocked over to the side some and it supposed to pull to the right (WHAT?!?!?!?)
then they took my car riding around for like 30 min. using my gas to check the gear grind????? and they concluded that its just "gear clash" and its totally normal?????? I asked about putting a new cd player in and they said that it will void everything it affects, so i said thats not bad, so he went into detail saying that if a wire grounded out it would zap my ecu, so in short he told me that it would void the warrenty on everything electrical and since the ecu controls the motor it also voids the warrenty on the motor and powertrain!!!! hahaha!!! all that from a freaking alpine! the wise guys at Gene Messer Mitsu in Amarillo Tx are Class A Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

holy geez! why are some dealerships so quick to say..'thatll void the warrenty'!
i guess it just depends on the dealership.
