Reverse won't engage at all when its cold. There is like a block on it and i can't get it into reverse gear at all. Other than that...cold is not bad.

My car isn't a huge fan of the cold either. Rough idle and hard shifts until it gets warmed up, then it runs like a charm.

You guys are forgetting another factor... how about some traction? Sure you can run on winter tires, but would you drive like a madman on some twisty roads in that temperature?

My first winter with the evo is coming to an end and I think it will be my last. This car just doesn't like the -20 or below temps that we get almost every day from Dec.-March. I get a new Service Engine Soon light almost every time I take it out. Thankfully I have a Tactrix cable to clear them and they don't come back. Power steering code, speed sensor code, etc. Maybe if I had a garage it would be ok. Excess salt and the fear of the damage that it and the cold are causing doesn't make it enjoyable anyways. It's going on jackstands until spring next year. My dream of a 4 season sports car was naive. I don't imagine Mitsu ever had extreme cold weather in mind with the car so it's no fault on their part. Makes me wonder if I should have got the STi though. How are the Canadians with the X's making out?

They told me they had nothing like that or any block heaters. I may order a universal oil pan heating pad online and perhaps one for the transmission as well.

My car (Evo 9) does not seem to like cold starts. I have found the best result is to use my turbo timer to take the key out and set the timer for 5 mins while I wait in the house, then take off for my commute. If I just jump in a drive the car cold, the throttle will surge quite a bit for the first 2-3 mins of driving until the engine is up to temp. The tyranny fluids take a bit more time to warm up, I tried switching to redline fluid but it still feels about the same as the fluids that were in the car when I bought it. I too have trouble getting from first to second gear when it is cold.

I reside in CT and I don't notice the difference. My car starts up just fine, but I put my car away in the garage for the winter. I don't drive it, so if it's a driving issue then no I wouldn't really know. However, I don't think it would be much of a difference.
