The DSM/EVO Shootout, the community and Buschur Racing
Yea i was kind of pissed when i found out both events had conflicting dates. Last year was my first time going to the BR shootout and i had a blast. It certainly wont be my last. It was one of the best times in my life. I left the event thinking "HOLY SHI7 i cant wait to come back next year! ". Now im left thinking of which event to go to. It was also on the perfect date being before the E Town one. It was worth the 8 hour drive but being that i can watch "some" fast evos here too im not sure if i will make it this year. My decision is up in the air now. I feel as a community we should email E town and let them know that the date is conflicting with the BR shootout. (even though its been done, more insight from others would keep it in the back of their mind) In my honest opinion by etown making their shootout the same date as buschurs, i feel like their trying to take over an event that they did not start. Thats not going to happen. Each event has their pros and cons to ME. Etown has their gay rules you have to abide by however it is a 30 minute drive from me. Watching as much of these events as i can is always fun and gives us something to enjoy. Although this conflict wont prevent me from sleeping it certainly has irritated me and has got me thinking of which event to attend. I feel that both events will unfortunately suffer from being on the same date. I remember last year a HUGE group of evo's from the NorthEast took a roadtrip and made the drive to OHIO. This year im not so sure if they will do that. It's just upsetting seeing two events that are suppose to benefit the DSM/EVO community become events that are tearing them apart. Im sure other people are in the same boat as me when it comes to "what event am i going to be attending?". From my POV dsm/evo enthusiasts from each part of the USA will be wondering damn which event should i go to. Is one worth the 8 hr drive from nj to ohio...vice versa.

David, I read through your whole post. You have proven in the past, even in the DSM days to get into arguments. You banned people like Kevin Bacon from your shootout. This attitude has continued through the years. For the last couple of years people have started to get really fed up with it. You attacked people like Marco and again banned him from your shootout. If the shootout is all about family then why are people getting banned? Perhaps they just want a place to race that weekend and simply took this opportunity to do that?
Perhaps your attitude has changed in the past couple weeks. However this wouldn't be the first time we've seen a "realization" of David Buschur. I hope it sticks. However you have years of damage to correct. You have angered many people and have created an uphill battle for yourself. This time next year we'll see how things stand. If we are back to the same old David Buschur, as I feel we will be, then I'll copy and paste this post I'm making for you to read.
I have attended and raced in your shootouts in the past. The lack of tech and rules flat out frightened me at the last shootout I'll race in, 2008. If I wanted to go 100+ mph without a helmet I'd go street racing. If I wanted to go 135+ without a cage I'd go street racing. If I wanted to go 11.49 and faster without a cage I'd go street racing. If I wanted to watch poorly prepped cars lay fluid for 1/4 mile I'd go street racing. If I wanted to watch a form of racing where the risk of someone being killed is high I'd go street racing. The truth is i don't have to drive 285 miles 1 way to go street racing. I can drive 5 miles from my home and go street racing. I can even do it the weekend of the shootout.
However I'd rather watch the fastest mitsubishi's in the world race. Theirfore I'll be at Englishtown.

I hope both events do good for the good of the community. The last thing I want to do is attend and have a bad turn out. It is messed up though, that the other event organizers scheduled at E-tow their event the same day as the DSM/EVO shootout.
Yes more events are better for the community and closer the better for ppl but on the same day..
Let's work together and plz dnt let it happen nxt year.
This will affect the community in a sense that on this day we will be diversified.
half here, half there..
Instead of having everyone in one spot kicking it and then later on a diff. day setting off the after party.
Now what I see happening is this:
"Where should I go?" "Am drving more here than there..
""They got these vendors here, but not there.."" AMS going here but I want to see DynoFlash Evo.. ""Wonder what times Turbo Trix running, sure would like to see them line up VS AWD MS..
"
etc.. etc.. etc its endless and sad..
E-Town Event Organizers.. plz tell me why on this day... you have the right to be heard. Right now.. your ef** up in my books because of such actions but there is a reason for everything.

excellent post there and very fair.. if its changed thats great if not well then same old..
truth is i want to goto both events. i like the people who are running the E town event but still come on. i dont get it. its a stab at not just who you think it was at but EVERYONE. everyone who go's to the shootout. everyone in the evo comunity.
i would goto both if Etown and crew would re scedual the date. as i think MANY more people would to. such a stupid move to make it the same day. i heard a rumor AMS is going to Etown.
to AMS
why are you going to E town and not Ohio???? its farther then Ohio. what is the excuse this time
to turbotrix
It was great having you guys at Ohio last year. did you not have fun? why the change and why like this?? you guys rocked at Ohio. what gives?????
why cant you guys goto BOTH events. what cant EVERYONE goto both event??????
i think 98% of people want to see ams, turbotrix, buschur, stm, magnus, dogbox, and all the other mega big dogs racing at one place. what not have that happen 2 times a year instead of one time and now dividing it all up???
so dumb if you ask me.

I have never dealt with bushcur directly. I have only read the comments made about him and his shop! Point is, I would def go to the shootout if I can make it. A 9 hour drive is quite a drive for the 1g though. If I had a trailer to throw it on, I would def take it. I would love to attend both events, if I could!
My take on most shops now, is that, unless you have money, not too many shops really want to talk anymore. Unless you have an evo, the shops that specialize in mitsu's/dsm's really dont want to mess with ya! The DSM drivers with our 1gs and 2gs are at a loss, as Ive heard of so many stories of them getting blown off for guys with evos!
Lets face it. Most of us with evos, we have a little extra cash laying around. (excluding myself)! Thats why their is an evo in the drive and not the 92 talon anymore!
Dsmer's are do it yourselfers! I have been wrenching on my 92 talon for about 5 years now. If there was ever a way to save a buck, I would! Most evo guys go for the top notch parts that are way over priced. If you have the money, go for it, I guess!
Just my thoughts,
Anthony

We have such a small corner of the import world its a shame to see petty infighting going on that could potentially cripple it. OF course its too late for this year, but maybe from now on we can see all the vendors and event organizers working together to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
Interesting post. I live about 20 minutes from E-town, but I have also been to the rescheduled shootout back in October 2007. I haven't made up my mind about where I want to go, but e-town sure is closer. I have to agree though with everyone that its wrong to have both events on the same day, no matter how you cut it. It would be so much better to have 2 events to go to. There needs to be SOMETHING done about this, we can't just sit back and have two events going on at the same time...
As far as David's post goes, I can definately see how a lot of people get turned off to him, and to be honest it bothered me a lot of times too. I never met him in person when I was in Ohio, but he was busy with some cars and then I believe he left to go back to the shop or something and I never got the chance. But to be honest, I wasn't sure what his reaction would be judging from what I have seen on here. I love his parts, and I like the fact that he is always trying to push the envelope in making the evo faster... he is never idle. Often times I come on here and its so boring, unless I am usually reading one of his threads and I commend him for his efforts

How are people that are giving the community another race to go to instead of driving 8+ hours from the tri-state area cowards? Last time I checked, there wasn't a rule that there can be only one DSM/EVO SO. And yes there will be more people going to the OH SO then the Etown one but remember that when David started this SO it was only attended by a handful of people, now look at it. So if the Etown race works out this year, it can only get better as the years go on. Calling people cowards is alittle much Mike....
I want to say a few things about this
The "Etown event" has been going on for many years
It is actually a combination of two events
A - The Turbo Trixs Mitsubishi Day
and
B - The WRX vs EVO Shootout which I was involved with originally organizing and promoting
I have attened these events every year and the Shootout
As we all know Import drag racing is on the decline with the demise of NHRA and NOPI and also the failure of several magor magazines like Turbo etc
What really bothers me is that the people behine the newly "improved" Etown event PURPOSELY picked the same day as the 17th year DSM Shootout in OHIo for the express purpose to try and harm the Ohio event and send a message to David Buschur
I am all for alternative events and support them 100%
When people put these events all on the same day it only harms the racers like myself and the fans who come out to support these events
This has already been discussed and rehased on many internet forums already and I have asked the follwoing question many times
CAN ANYONE tell me one honest, fair, or ethical reason to schedule the NJ race on the same day as the race in OH
No matter how you slice it this means we are dividing the community of racers and splitting ourselves apart. NOTHING good will come of this.
I wish that the guys in NJ would simply pick another day so everyone could come out and support both events.

Because they are hurting the racers, not giving us another race. Many people would like to enjoy both races, but since its on the same weekend, can not. If it was on another weekend people would be happy about it. They are taking away the opurtunity to runin both events and that is whats ****ty.
This has been known for about two months now as the people behind thise have posted all about it on TEAM NABR a private forum on how they were doing this to teach Buschur a lesson and ruin the Ohio event
I called Raceway Park in NJ to explain the situation to them and got no where
I am now contacting Exedy who is the sponsor of both events
I can only do my best to try and prevent this injustice from taking place as I am a guy who would love to race at both events and spend time with all the other racers together as brothers not be divided and have the whole weekend filled with anger and tension as everyone is divided
Very commendable post David! I hope your soul searching has found you to be in a better place!
I really hope that people understand that diluting the field of cars, as they are, and/or trying to **** you over isn't worth the energy involved nor will it ever be. It's amazing that people actually go out of their way to do this, but there are always a couple in the crowd sadly. I would never wish badly on someone (ok maybe my ex-wife
) but I really hope the other event fails miserably… For the mere fact that their intents are construed, negative, and appalling for adults to act such a way. Why couldn't they have it on another day... hell, I would probably even go! At the end of the day, when their race is over and their shot at trying to **** you over has expired, I wonder how they feel about themselves? I wonder if they will feel bigger about themselves? For some reason I doubt it... It's a damn shame to see "adults" pull stunts like this.
Keep making the wise decisions, keep making great parts, and I'll see you and the Buschur crew at BOTH of your events this year!

Since I have heard this news I have been very angry, very upset and filled with stress
It literally makes me sick inisde to think that there are people so filled with hate and jealousy that they would spend so much effort to try and destroy an event like the DSM Shootout
What a shame

I was on the phone with the guys at E'town several weeks ago to try and convince them to swap the date
I see no good reason to hold it on the same day as the other event
