Yeah, I was thinking about giving the Evo to a friend to look after while you're gone and make him swear to never drive it. I'm planning a 2 1/2 week trip and will be giving my Evo to a friend for him to keep in the garage. Of course, I know he drives crazy so I'll be keeping the keys.

Sorry to hear about your theft though. Can't believe they took the trunk and hood. Hell, I can't believe they took the fenders, bumpers, and taillights/headlights. Now I can understand all that but WHY the airbag and not the entire steering wheel? What on Earth will they do with the AC condenser and radiator? Hell, they EVEN took the coolent resevoir! They must be desperate to fix their own Evo or some other Evo owner got word of your Evo and how it's been sitting there. Some of those parts would end up on Craigslist so keep an eye out.

Also, not to sound like a jerk, but are you parting out the car anytime soon? I'm willing to buy some parts from you and you might make some money to grab yourself another Evo along with insurance money. I would ask the cops first to see if it's OK for parting out evidence. Since you already took photos, there might be a chance. I really need steering knuckles badly...

So... I was hoping I could get some advice from you guys living in densely populated suburban neighborhoods that only have a driveway with no garage. I've been quite depressed over this past weekend because of what's happened. My mind is now completely undecided over whether or not it'd be worth it to own another Evo... or any nice car for that matter.

I'd say 60% of me wants to check out what the Evo X is capable of... but the other 40% of me is telling myself to go buy some beater *** car that will more than likely make me hate my life when I'm trying to drive the 4 hours home. Anyways, what I'm curious to know is this. What do you guys do to protect your Evo? The only ideas I can come up with so far is:

-Silent car alarm system that pages my cell.
-A few sets of motion-activated lights focused on the driveway and the sidewalk in front of the house.
-Hope my neighbors are nice and we can watch out for each other.
-(Maybe) Installing some sort of surveillance for the driveway.

If I do get an Evo X, I most decidedly will not mod the car whatsoever until my one year lease in Arlington is up and I find somewhere with a garage. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated here.

Oh, and insurance has yet to contact me. :/

WowWee Rovio - Robotic Home Sentry and Interactive Mobile WebCam

DETAILS VIDEOS TAGS STATS SHARE Shop For It
► Hammacher.com - $300

► Find it on eBay.com
Imagine being able to monitor your home and family while on vacation, away at the office or just anytime you're away and feel the need to check in on things. Did the house get robbed? Is the babysitter up to no good? Is the cat swinging from the ceiling fan... again? Is Grandma down? Is your spouse "entertaining" a special visitor? These questions can all be answered with your own 21st century WowWee Rovio - Robotic Home Sentry ($300)

The Rovio is a Wi-Fi enabled robotic remote-control webcam that can move in any direction and lets you monitor and spy on your home from anywhere in the world. Simply log on using a remote device capable of browsing the Internet like a PC or Mac, cell phone, video game console and more to gain interactive mobile access to high-resolution streaming video (640 x 480) and audio of your home via Rovio's built-in camera and microphone. It features real-time voice interaction with subjects with its built-in two-way microphone and speaker, so you can tell the dog to get off the couch or scare away a burglar. It can even takes still pictures and e-mail them to you on command. This amazing little robot guardian can be controlled remotely by you or patrol your home on 10 customizable paths using 3 omni-directional wheels for nimble 360° movement and its NorthStar Navigation System and infared sensors to detect and avoid obstacles in its way. It has a built-in rechargeable battery with remote self-dock re-charge feature, an LED for night time illumination and a 100' Wi-Fi range. Unfortunately, it's not fully-armed to the teeth, but maybe that's a good thing. Remember what happened with ED-209 in Robocop (see videos)?

The Rovio may seem like a fun toy and I'm sure kids would love to play spy games with it, but it's actually a cool addition to any high-tech home security plan. Being able to remotely view and interact with your home and family from anywhere on the planet is simply pure peace-of-mind. Plus, it could also be a lot of fun to mess with pets while you're bored at the office. -

"No one was walking around or heard them? It looks like they took their time and took almost everything they can get hands on.
Check Ebay, Craigslist, Newspaper, and local car club webpages.
Also try to call around shops around and ask if they have those parts for sale.

Nope, nobody saw a thing. The garage is sheltered beneath the apartment. Completely un-manned. No cameras. Anybody can walk in at 3AM and take whatever they want. I've been looking on Craigslist and eBay, but I doubt these guys are dumb enough to sells stolen parts online. My guess is the parts are either well on their way overseas, or at a junkyard somewhere.

That robot camera with the two-way microphone does sound promising, however. I'd love to just place it at the window overlooking my car with a monitor in my room on 24/7. If someone wants to try something, I'd love to see the look on their face when the window starts shouting at them.

In other news, I did post a scathing review of this crappy *** apartment online. Lo and behold, I got a response... from the guy who was parked next to me. He apparently saw my car that morning when he left for work, before the cops came to tow it away. His car was broken into as well, passenger side window broken with both airbags missing. I'm definitely going to give him a call tomorrow, and my guess is, we're going to look over the lease and see if there's any possibility for legal action. Their apathy towards security in these garages is nothing short of negligence, imo.
