front plate bracket on IX
front plate bracket on IX
anyone just use double sided tape for the entire bracket w/o screws? what about double sided tape with the plate against the bumper without a bracket?

If you hate drilling the 2-4 big holes on your front bumper what I recommend you to do is drill from the under side of the from bumper instead (of the front side like oem).
here what I did....
Tool needed: Screw driver, License plate mount hardware, L-shape license holder bracket, drill, knife. oh yeah you can paint the plastic insert to match your car.... and using the plastic inserts mean you can screw it in and out very easy for pictures, show and for just about anything.
Your hardware and L-shape bracket should look something like these.

Step 1: Test fit before start. Mark all point before cutting. Now cut two square hole into the front bumper like this. Note: You need to measure and make sure how big your plastic screw insert before cutting.

Step 2: Now after you cut the two square hole.. insert the plastic screw inserts. It should make a poping noise comfirms that it pops right in. It looks like this:

With the screw on it looks like this:

Step 3: Finally attach your lincense plate bracket and screw the plate in. It should look something like this:
Front the top:

from the front view:

****You're all done... now got some

to celebrate your easy 1, 2, 3 plate mount. Last edited by WICKed'N'EVO; May 27, 2009 at 02:44 PM.
Wicked N Evo thanks for the reply, that was awesome. Def will consider that.
Question: What if I zip tie the plate to the mesh area above the intercooler? I dont track/drag/x-cross my ride just normal and spirited driving (usually on the freeways, I might redline it here and there).. will I have any issues with the partially blocked intercooler?

The zip tie will work...if you prefer that way.
The reason I done the plastic inserts was because I can remove the plate in and out easily... plus no one will see the holes on the bumper unless looking from underneath.
I don't understand why people who want to put their plates on just don't use the IX bracket. It's NOT that bad, though admittedly the VIII brackets looked like weaksauce. Who cares if you're going to have to drill holes into your bumper? If the plate is on, then you're not going to see it anyway, unless you plan on taking the plate off frequently for whatever reason, like if you want to go back to being Mr. Cool after a cop signs your ticket after putting it back on for not having a front plate.
Anyway, I've known a few people who have used the double-sided tape, and in most cases it seems to work out just fine. But of course it has its limits, and you don't want to pay for a new one if it comes off or if some drunken idiot who notices your hanging plate decides to rip it off... I've seen it happen. Or, more importantly, if your plate decides to let go when you're on the freeway, a metal license plate flying through the air isn't the safest thing to be behind.
Sorry for the rant.

If the bracket was already installed then its all good I'd def use that.. i'm just too lazy to bring it somewhere to get it drilled (having no tools sucks). Yeah I was thinking the same with the tape. the last thing I want is my plate flying off and causing an accident or getting stolen by a crackhead.
Wicked N Evo your mounting method is very clean. if I had your resources I'd do the same.
I'm going to try the front mesh and see how it goes. Man I hate Cali and its **** laws

We're not complaining about the law we're just looking for a better ways to mounts the front plate.
Well... for some of us ..when we pick up our brand new evos the bumper and bracket was never drill or install. Plus no plate look best... but yeah most state law requires a front plate.

If you just don't have the bracket and are planning to put the plate on, then that's a different story.
I have and like the beatrush bracket

also for the viii

Wicked has a good idea, but I would add a third leg to prevent the bottom from flapping

have you thought about flipping that bracket the other way round so the plate is mounted "up"?
Would free up that opening quite a bit...
(with apologies for the photochoppiness...)

heres the plate after my ghetto fabolous ziptie install

its very visible and doesn't stick out all weird at diff angles like it did when I had it ziptied to the driver side mesh area under the headlight. my car being black helps the zipties not stand out too much, I don't know if I would do it if I had a diff color though. I padded the back of the plate with double sided tape to keep it from damaging the paint. The only issue is visually that it blocks the intercooler, but this will def work for now. Maybe I'll get the bracket installed one day

I guess that day was today. having the plate blocking the intercooler bothered me so I went to the stealership for the hardware, hit up a body shop i usually go to and they did it for $10. plate looks kinda naked, probably needs a cool frame. thanks for all the help guys
The bracket I have right now is adjustable and can be mount any way I like.
