Modding goals

It's hard to find a stock Evo. Though some mod just to mod, I think that most of us alter the factory config for a reason. For example, my Evo is setup for Point A to Point B on the street, so its suspension is relatively compliant and its powerband is concentrated in the midrange. Why did you mod your Evo and what have you done to achieve your goal? Too, has your goal been met?

No hp numbers, but building for DD and autox

9 turbo, GSC S1, HKS cam gears, Megan 02, Thermal R&D exhaust, DC Sports dp w/ cat delete, Walbro 255, Mishimoto Carbon Intake, Exedy Twin Disk, MR Bilsteins, Works Ride Springs, Robispec RSB, Perrin Adj. Endlinks, Cusco Power Brace, Beatrush undertray...most power parts aren't installed yet, but I expect 320 on a Mustang dyno @ 25lbs. Suspension is brakes are on top of my list, not power

I guess the question goes a little further than numbers. If your goal is a high HP car, what do you want to do with the car that requires that much power? Right off the top of my head, as examples, folks build high HP cars for racing, bragging rights, the challenge of it, whatever. We all have our own reasons. If you're building a car for drag, you want the power up top. For auto-x, other constraints apply. Which parts have you chosen to align the mods with your individual goals?

Everyone has their own goals. Personally, my goals are to have a streetable, docile, and fun to drive street car that makes near 500whp and can still do well in the corners. I have not completed or achieved my goals but I am in the process of accumulating parts

It doesn't make sense to leave cheap hp on the table when it comes to the Evo. That's why so many are modded with a tune/MBC/TBE.

I'm looking for an all around street car that if I wanted to autox or take to the track I can. I am looking for around 450whp. So far my mods are Buschur intake, AMS TBE, Walbro 255, hallman MBC, Robispec street coilovers, Volk CE28's 17 x 9.5. Future mods are BBK full, ported and coated exhaust manifold, intake manifold and TB. S2 cams, injectors, springs and retainers, ARP headstuds, AMS FMIC and piping and an Exedy twin plate. Currently I'm at 343 whp/ 340 torque and looking for more.

To answer the question, my build is focused on throttle response, efficiency, and budget. Since dd and autox requires power in the middle of the powerband, thats where i'm shooting. Autox doesn't require huge power, as proven by the local guy in our region who kills more expensive and highly modified cars in his 1.5liter sohc civic. I take the mods slowly so I can really learn if it is working properly and if it was worth the money. If I can drive my car pass it's limits, then I will at least know what the next step for improvement is. However, that has yet to happen

my car is built with all intentions of being streetable...it is my daily driver and I want it to be manageable in traffic but still be a rush when on open roads

the hta73green will probably be the end of modding power-wise for me...for now I have bolt-ons and make 352whp/348wtq on pump gas

it's fast and clean...gets attention but not too much attention...which is fine by me

I'm modding my evo 8 gsr not to gain more HP but to add JDMs specs and to upgrade it with some MR and SSL features. Only a few bolts on upgrades have been made like 3" downpipe and cat back, bigger intercooler, evo 9 turbo, slotted brake disc, evo metal diverter valve and 6 speed trans., MR Blistein suspension.

Cosmetic mods:
VIS Racing carbon fiber hood. Jdms front and rear lights, Evo 7 blue stitch steering, power folding mirrors, Double din console. Evo 7 engine rocker cover powder coated in candy apple red.. Full leather interiors, MR pedals, brake handle and shift knob. Carbon fiber dash cluster, carbon doors pillars, rear bumper license and exhoust carbon fiber trims. Chrome inner doors handles. Auto-dim mirror. Vortex generator. JDM original side mounted front license plate. EVOLUTION VIII trunk badge, RALLIART emblems. JDM front doors stainless steel door sills. Stand alone dash mounted monitor with a Sony Xplod Car DVD with 4 carbon fiber speakers.
Thats are prety much all...

My next goals:
JDM Evo 9 rear bumper
Evo 9 MR SE BBS rims.
Red Silicon intercooler pipes
Carbon Fiber radiator shroud

Final goal:
To have a unique but clean looking Evo.

Car facts:
2003 Evo 8 GSR - Lighting Yellow- 40,000 miles

As I mentioned in the original post, my Evo was setup for the street. Power-wise, the original goals have been surpassed. I wouldn't mind taking the car a bit further, but I not willing to give up an iota of drivability. Quicker spool would be great. Really, I don't feel a shortage of power, just driver skill. For all intents and purposes, this part done.

Reducing the car's rotational mass made the car feel a lot lighter and more responsive, in turn giving its driver more confidence. We shed ~30lbs from stock with Baer rotors on all 4 corners and 15.5lb RPF1s. I'd love to find lighter tires and will most likely go in that direction when my other set of Advans lets go. A lightweight driveshaft is a possibility, as well.

Lastly, I'm very curious about the ACD reflash and I'll most likely try it out next spring.

I'll add some pictures ASAP.

The only difference was the PCV valve grummet that is bigger and not aluminum everything else is a direct fit.
