New at the EVO thing but have a question

I know there's threads already about my question, but I did search LOL. I'm looking to get either a 05 non SSL with HID's or a 06 IX. Now i know the differences between the two (motor wise) would be the mivec system, and the larger turbo, but if I got the 05 and did the AMS motor swap (later on down the road) the mivec advantage wouldn't make a difference right if I was to run a 06 with the same mods on the drag strip?

Not really sure what you are asking. Yes MIVEC makes a difference.

This is a confusing question.

If you are going to swap the motor/ turbo then it doesn't matter, and actually the 05's have the same turbo as the IX's, if I'm not mistaken, so you are only down the MIVEC.

If you were going to keep the stock motor and turbo setup, then the MIVEC would make a difference. If you are going to swap things then no, it won't matter.

the 05 VIII's turbo has the same hotside as the 06 IX's turbo (10.5)
the compressor side is different...

if you get an VIII and get a built motor its still gonna be an VIII built motor without mivec.

if you get a IX and get a built motor its gonna have mivec...theres too much to swap if you want mivec in an VIII...

hope this helps?...

Swapping a mivec motor into a 8 is pointless and probable very costly. its like spending 3g's on a turbo kit for a neon just to get 30hp more out of ur car its not worth it. just buy a 9 and build the mivec

Lol on the neon comment... I still own an 05 for the moment, should be sold this week then it's on to evo. My kit was only $1800 and made 471hp..... But back to topic, How much differance does mivec really make?

depends what your plans are for the car...if you plan on going with a bigger turbo down the road, mivec will work against you. MIVEC head flows well and is definitely an advantage for stock framed turbos(FP Green, FP Red, CBRD BBK, Tomei Arms, etc..) mivec head is also much more costly to maintain and spark plugs alone can run you over 50$. I wouldnt suggest switching an evo 8 head to an evo 9. All the big HP evos around here all run evo 8 heads.

^+1 to that.

as others have mentioned, it comes down to what are your plans later on

moderately modified or the full race thing.

no point in swapping to mivec in an VIII waste of money

Both can make good power. I think a good tuner can help you max out either setups. How much power do you plan on making?

sorry. askin the OP. Its easier, yes, to get 450 hp out of the mivec, but its not terribly hard to get out of the VIII 4G63 either. I mean, unless your trying to squeeze out the aboslute last hp for some dyno number, it shouldnt matter that much.

What kind of spark plugs are you buying? Mine are like $7.
