and how well an elise will do depends on scca classification.

Uhh, actually, you can. I read in SportCompactCar mag that someone had one one of the first USDM EVO 8 shipped to New Zealand for the Pikes Peak race.
As for the rest of this thread, whatever comes out better not have 6spd, AYC, etc. I'd hate to lose $$$ on my trade-in

I can easily believe that Mitsu will evolve our Evo's. If they didn't, they would quickly get left behind.
But I don't see them selling a completely stripped out version for racing, AND back it with a full comprehensive warranty.
SC~

So what version do we have. I heard there is 3 versions. The GSR 6-Speed, the RS 5-Speed & The RS 5-Speed. I know that might be a stupid question, but this will suck if I got the EVO to early. I would love the GSR 6-Speed!

Let me take a stab at it with the hints Shiv had dropped...
USDM RS still will be devoid of AYC, ACD, IBM, QED, LOL etc... but with the Ti Turbo and maybe even HKS Dragger Exhaust and Intercooler piping a la FQ300. Throw out some weight (radio, power this, power that, sound deadening, etc) and what you have left is a "sportier" lighter 300HP version at the same price as "stock" EVO.
Shiv, am I on the right track? Just yea or nay ;-)

That is, I don't believe any current EVO owner is going to regret not having waited for the RS. But when you guys see the RS, I think it will prove to everything that Mitsubishi is serious about continuing the evolution process with the US EVO. The unique parts that will come standard on the RS can easily retrofitted to the current EVO. So don't sweat it. Just sit back and enjoy
