It dosn't really bug me, though its sad. Like tru being at the track shouldn't be a big deal, the car is made for high preformance situations, and tha shouldn't be spying on you... even if they are (Ok so there are some dealers looking round', gettin ppl's plates.. its the crooked ppl who do this)

Though if I think of it, mitsu is prob. trying its best. The world today is filled with scammers, and ppl trying to take the easy way out, but im sure mitsu is not letting them do it freely, and if the corprate office finds out the dealers who are "spying" on your car, or "joyriding" in your car, etc.

N sicx is rite bout nessian, espsc. one in the GTA, I forgot which one it is but my bro's friend had an STi for about 3 days, and went into the service dept. of tha dealer he bought it from, and they voided his warranty becuase his tires appeared as if he doing burnouts.

He called Canada's head office N they said they couldn't do anything about it, WTF? Now that's bad PR and CS skills.

Im just saying, mitsu is prob. trying its best in keeping a good rep, CS, PR, etc. and still making quality products.

Just keep a few grand in the bank in case something goes wrong. Then no need for a extended warr.

Found something interesting:
Mitsu should take notes

Seems like the guy admitted to tracking the car, yet still got his new engine under warranty.

man we're getting shafted

From the Subie forum link above...

As noted in the track post - the dealer already knows what I was doing with the car at the track. It was an open track day with no timers, etc - definitely not a competition. I was driving the car moderately aggressively in a controlled environment where I could develop a understanding of how the car would handle and perform at speed in a safe manner. I figured being upfront about what was happening would help in the diagnosis of the problem - and have not seen anything to the contrary from the dealer at this point.
That is absolutely impressive. The guy was doing what he was doing for all the right reasons and the dealership was cool with it. Some manufacturer's realize that taking a performance car to the track, with proper supervision and safety equipment, is a safe alternative to street racing and should be encouraged (within reason, obviously an entry into the WRC should void the warranty). That guy could have been doing the same type of driving in the mountains and potentially had the same failure, but he also would have had a better likelihood of taking out a minivan full of kids.

Best wishes,
f86sabre

It gets better one of the members of our socalevo meet brought a paper from his dealership in santa barbara. Not sure of the exact words but they did mention that an after market sound system would void your warrenty among other stupid things.

Mitsu Warranty Disclaimer

As Bevo said, I picked up a warranty disclaimer from the Ventura Mistsu Dealer known as Todey. They say Mitsu is sending to all dealerships this alert, which says that any modification can be seen as "peripherally related" to any failure of the vehicle. Not directly related, as Magnusson warranty act requires, but peripherally.

Like what is peripherally? That could be interpreted as anything. Bottom line, they don't have a legal leg to stand upon. But they can make it a real hassle.

And that, my friends, is bad business.

You'ld think that Mitsu sales are not doing well. Let's face it. Except for the Evo, they're not producing class leading anything.

And now they could use the EVO as a example of what they can do, what a good company they are, and they screw the buyers by hassling over warranty stuff.

Think I may head back to Subaru next time. They're into turbo everything. And they like performance and aftermarket mods. Very friendly about it too.

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever hear of. That dealership should be burned down for such stupidity.
The only thing an aftermarket sound system would void is the warranty on your speakers or the electrical system having to do with the audio system. I hate the fact that these terrible dealerships are giving the Mitsu service departments a bad name. We here NEVER push our service customers away. We try to work everything out for you.
If anyone has any issues with your service department, come to ours. We are performance oriented here, so we don't BS you around.

Mitsu is ****ing you guys royally. Thier CS reputation is what made me buy an STI. Though I wish I had both cars

This is a major purchase for me and I will have this car for a long while, I don't want to worry about my dealership ****canning my warranty for stupid ****.

I love the EVO but damn, **** needs to be done about that CS. I MAY trade up my STI for an EVO one day IF gets their act together...and I have extra cash to dump on the car...not likely

Coming from VW/AUDI, I guess I could say that it's pretty much the same with Mitsubishi. Here's a few list: engine oil leak during break in period, window regulator failing, coil packs going out, tranny problems, paint problems, wheel finish peeling, clutch problem, CEL coming on with less than 1500 miles on my Audi(took 2 dealerships, 4 visits and 6 mechanics to find a vacuum leak), 2nd gear grind, Monsoon wired incorrectly(02), creaks and rattles(even on Audi), etc. Dealerships have exactly the same attitude as listed above. And these vehicles are not even high performance. I guess it's pretty much the same on every car company. It's hit and miss. This is coming from a former owner of 02 GTI 1.8T, 03 GLI, 03 A4 1.8T Quattro.
