Woah.. The Evo is an ignorant, inbred, trailor park *****? Come on now.. If the Evo came from Subaru maybe that's how hte family would be, but the Mitsu is more like a farm family in the middle of Idaho.. 28 kids, and one just a shining star.

LOL I didn't say inbred or *****, just a little rough around the edges which is expected given the environment, but exactly what I am looking for in terms of performance. But are you serious? Subaru is a class act compared to . My original idea was to start out with "There I was, wading through a sesspool..."

Hehe, well maybe the Subaru clan is more like a family of 15 up to their chins in feces and urine mud working the rice patty farm on the side of a mountain..

I guess a vette is from the potatoe farmer family..

The number of people having issues with the Evo is small compared to the number of Evos out there, but I believe that the failure rate for Evos is much higher than with other similar cars. The number of motor failures with low mileage Evos is concerning to me -- I guess primarily because I'm one of them -- but it should also be of concern to potential buyers because does not seem to be covering the failures under warranty.

I can understand not covering a clutch. In my case, not covering two rods failing for an Evo with only 3,000 miles on it because the completely stock car participated in 6 minutes of SCCA Solo2 in a local parking lot a couple of weeks before the failure ... is unacceptable. It is highly unlikely that the 6 minutes of autocross had anything to do with the rod failures.

In response to press inquiries to based on my situation and others, issued a press release making claims about always giving the benefit of the doubt to the customer, service diagnosis of the issue, striving to provide excellent customer service. I can't speak for others, but in my case didn't even bother to take a look at the car before putting a warranty restriction on it and denying the claim. No diagnosis, no analysis or discussion ... no customer service.

I've owned a lot of sports cars in my 43 years. I've participated in SCCA Solo2 events. I've yet to do any time at a track, but hope to get on a track with my Honda S2000 later this summer. I've never had a warranty issue with any other car manufacturer ever.

Our Evo is back on the road. It's a wonderful car to drive ... not quite as fun as the S2000 , but it is without question a wonderful car. Not surprisingly, given my own personal experience ... this was my first and will definitely be my last.

Mitsu Motors (Fusou) Japan

Pretty heated up discussion here. Does any of viewers know that Mitsubishi Motors Japan is facing a very difficult time right now? They did not report few recalls on the trucks made by mitsubishi Fusou (Truck division of the Mitsubishi). And there have been few deaths involved with the un-reported recall. Mitsu Motors stock dropped down 30% or so (I'm not sure of the exact number but very significant number) since this un-reported recall has been all over the news in Japan. I'm surprised not to see this news in the US.

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/japan/

Many of you won't be able to read this but there is an apology statement on the opening page of Mitsuishi Motors Japan hope page.

What if I participate in Sports Car Club of America Solo2 events? Will El Cerrito still do warranty work on my Evo? Here's a description of Solo2:

The National Solo Rules, SCCA (2004) say:

Rule 1.6

A Category II Solo Event is a non-speed driving skill contest such as, but not limited to, autocrosses and slaloms. These events are run on short courses that emphasize the Driver's ability and the car's handling and agility. Competition licenses are not reuqired and hazards to spectators, participants and property do not exceed those encountered in normal, legal highway driving.

I haven't read all the posts, but I bought my Evo specifilcally for the performance part of it. Mitsu even advertises on their web site that the car can give you extra edge at the track. But nope, no track allowed. Void your warranty. Understand, I'm a believer in you pay to play, but KNOWN ISSUES should ALWAYS be covered. But then again, Mitsu has a rep for looking the other way for faulty equipment.

Nothing seems to change or get done until someone dies off from it. STUPID and SAD. I guess complaint just won't do it.

sometimes i wish the Evo had a Toyota badge on it... sometimes i wish Toyota would step up and release a GT-Four that can compete with the Evo and STi and i wouldn't have to worry at night about something happen to my car outta the clear blue and they'll say how deep are your pockets... Mitsu pulled their ace definetly bringing this car here to up it's image, now they're dragging that gained image through the mud...

I'm fairly nuetral on Mitsubishi. The only reason I'm driving a Mitsubishi is because of the EVO. They don't make anything else I would like to own. the 3000GT VR4 was a sweet car, but it was overpriced. The eclipse was decent (preparing to get myself flamed here) but I really think of it as a Japanese Mustang. You see one on every corner and 99% of them are just crap FWD turds. The few GSXs you found were very cool, but at that time I drove an RX-7 so they did not interest me.

After the EVO I have no idea what I will buy. it will depend upon what is being built.

Ya Mitsu is doing really poorly. They have so much money in other industries, it would make perfect sense to pull the plug on their auto and focus on everything else. They are really looked down upon in Japan right now with all the truck coverup scandals. I'm getting freaked out. =(

3000 vr-4 was a garbage. The tranny breaks down too easy, from what I heard from owners.

Also, the engine.

I'm still voting a loyal mitsu customer because I want an EVO MR.

I don't know about the clutch on the EVO but clutches do go back if you launch AWD cars hard. When you launch the car and the tires don't give then the transmission and the clutch will have to give thus one of them will likely to go bad. When you launch a car at higher than idle RPM then you are abusing the car. Plain and simple! Anything you read in a racing manual or "how to drive like Mario" is abusing the car.

Race cars are rebuilt after each race and all the fluids are flushed and replaced as well. Race teams have backup cars because their main ones might go bad. Race Teams abuse their cars!!!

The owner of this site Mike or Brain (been a long time since I dragged raced, can't remember his name) http://www.alteredatmosphere.com/ broke like 4 transmission when he tried to dump his clutch at drag strips. He then gets his car towed home. Him and his dad would make the car stock again before towing it to Mitsu in Hagerstown, Maryland for warrenty service. Took a while till the dealers caught on and told them that is the last tranny they would give them.

Is it fair for Mistu to pay for your damage? No!

Here is something that I don't like about Mitsu. The active aero on my car was replace 5 times and the thing is still broken. The weather strips inside the window keeps coming out and getting ripped. It was replaced 13 times and it is still broken. The AC/Heat Vents on the dash popped out and it's been replaced 4 times and it's still broken. The active exhaust button on the dash was never used and it fell off at around 10,000 miles.

A new Ecplise convertible sitting in Fairfield Califorina's showroom has it's door panels and seat belt holders falling off.

I think Mitsu makes strong engines but everything else lacks behind.

And I have first hand knowledge of warranty claims.....you people have no freakin idea how generous mitsu can be. Some of the stuff people complain about that we have to replace is just rediculous. I could literally sell some of the stuff as new on ebay and have no problem selling it. And if you are at a track racing your car(drag racing) you deserve to be denied. Do you people ever watch drag racing on tv. They run down the track once and tear the motor down and rebuild it. Don't expect your car to run like a gem when you run the absolute dog snot out of it.

AND! Screw the AD...about street legal race car crap....it is still an everyday car....it is a freakin ad people. Heck if I was going to sue someone for false advertisement I'd be better goin after coors beer with all the hot *** women in their ads. It just kills me to see all the complaints on here, cause most of them are soooooooooooooo freakin stupid. Like rust on my bumper.....what the F*ck....our bumpers are made of plastic...ya know polymers....!!!!! Polymers don't rust.

In my opinion, if you buy a car like the evo be prepared to spend alot of money on maintaing it. Hell my talon cost a ton to maintain....but I didn't car it was fast as hell. Nothing major ever broke on it ever...just small crap. my advice to you....if you are that unhappy with your evo....wrap it around a tree....then you can try and sue mitsubishi for faulty AWD and pay off your evo!!!
The rust on the bumper was not on the bumper panel, but on the frame behind the panel, which is not plastic. And you're probably thinking of some of the things Mitsu has done for other car models, not the Evo. I doubt they're very generous about Evos, maybe a Gallant.

I love my EVO, best car I've ever owned, over 21,000 miles with original factory clutch. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. As for future Mitsubishi models, it all depends, I didn't like any other model except for the EVO.
