Your view of Mitsubishi now...
I'd agree, I don't think the problems with the car are that enormous, but the large majority of people who have bad service is troubling. The reason new cars are so expensive and depreciate quickly is becuase of the warranty and service you receive during new car ownership. If the service is poor and the warranty denied, than 15% of the car is wasted. Maybe the warranty should just be an option to check or not at purchase. Then you can better tailor the car purchase to your needs. If it's gonna be a nothing but maintenance/lease type ownership, the warranty should be valid and chosen. If it's going to be your typical sports vehicle ownership enjoying the car and twisting wrenches on the car every so often, skip the warranty and avoid the dealership..
As the title of the thread mentions, it's your view of Mitsubishi. Most all quality and resale value is from perception, so if people have bad experiences with service and their perception is lowered, that is still a bad mark on the marque. Mitsu needs to improve the perception of it's "religion".

From what I read on this forum, there seems to be alot of complaints, although it wasn't unexpected. I come from a prelude forum and there are little to no complaints whatsoever. BUT that's coming from a car that is not brand new in the states and it's a HONDA, so it's completely understandable where the difference would come from. Personally, there are a million things I HATE about my car, hence why I'm selling it. One of the biggest has to do with power, etc. etc. that's a different post. Now that's coming from a stickered $26k car when it first came out. If any of you haters would like to sell your car for close to 20k, I'M RIGHT HERE. I haven't had a warranty for 3 years now, and it rarely bothers me.
Feel like you're being cheated by the dealership, go drive a Honda. The dealership won't cheat you, your car will.

A well built reliable car is about the overall package, attention to detail, reliability, quality materials, manufacturing tolerances and extensive testing. I think Mitsu does some stuff well but is not as thorough as some of the other Japanese mfgs. That way they can sell the car for less tham the competitor.
Let’s yank the turbo off the EVO and bump the compression up to 11:1. I doubt you would break 160 hp on 91 octane. Granted the turbo offers advantages like low rpm torque, but why limit yourself to 2.0L on the street? Weight? Heck the Z06 is 5.7L V8 and weighs 3118 lbs?
Anyway, all of the manufactures know how to make big HP. How you make big HP that is reliable for 100,000 miles on a 100 deg day using 91 octane is the challenge. Compared to other mfgs I think the 4G63 has always been tuned relatively extreme for a street car. Heck now they are using a water sprayer on the FMIC so they can run 19 PSI.
Have you seen the HP numbers the Corvette guys are getting with some mods...yeiks!
IMHO the Corvette to EVO comparison is apples to oranges, simply based on price (not to mention drivetrain and bodystyle).
But I see where you are coming from. Especially, if you've expeirenced
purely on a U.S. basis. I've owned their cars on three continents, at different times over the past 2 decades (yeah, I'm old...
) So, I have a slightly different perspective on
.
In Europe
has quite a reputation, only a notch below Toyota (versus an entire tier in the U.S...)
The Galant I own now ('99 ES USDM) has no mechanical problems, however, the interior does rattle and feels a bit cheap.
In comparison, the Galant I owned in Switzerland ('97 V6 Edition) was just superbly built.
IMO
really needs to work on its U.S. operations.

I have to say the Z06 is fast and stops good but that's it. The inside is a POS for that money it has the same crap as a $10,000 geo. I would never own a Z06 because it's not my kind of car even if it was $20,000. Also I want a car that is 4 wheel drive and has a turbo that you can make super fast for 6-7k and have it run fine everyday. Also I like the feel of the evo over the Z06 and I ALWAYS see a z06 slide out at every track day I goto, even with slicks. Also ya the mitsu engine is really tapped for power that is why people are getting 600HP from it.

service shops in the area and do you know how many Evo's we've had with clutch problems OR any major blow up? Try 1 or 2 out of the 30-50 I see around here.
You think
is in trouble due to the way they handle their warranty? Try again. They're in trouble due to their previous poor marketing strategy. They aimed all their marketing on the young generation, which is now growing older and they've lost that older market segment. I'm not going into this now, but it has nothing to do with warranty work.
This is probably the most funny thing I've read all day. You think
people are complaining about their Evo's? Go read the Subby forums for a while. From detonation, to the hood scoop and wing flapping in the wind, the super mushy steering, the BOOM BOOMS in the rear diff, there are FAR FAR more problems with the Subby.
I'm just sick and tired of reading "Oh, I read this from this one person, so it must all be bad" or even reading it from 50 people. 1 person complaining is more powerful than 100 people saying positive things. There are far more people with 0 problems on here than there are with problems. Stop reading so deep into every complainer says and make your own decisions for yourself first hand, in real life, instead of reading it on a forum. Go to your local :mistu: shop and talk to the service advisor. If you're straight with them and nice to them, they'll be perfectly honest and straight with you.

But when half the threads on the front page of the largest Evo-specific forum on the net are discussing bad clutches and an unsupportive manufacturer, what are you supposed to expect? I've BEEN reading the Subaru forums....people there ARE *****ing about a flapping spoiler and an ugly hood scoop and stuff like that. But that is not as major as a car company denying warranty work because people take their cars to the track (which is a joke) or GOD FORBID....burn up the tires!
I'm probably going to buy an Evo, regardless of what people say here, but honestly I sure as **** wish that
was a honda H instead. Then I knew I could rely on the manufacturer to stand behind their product.

If people here don't know the difference between the normal amount of negative "noise" on any car-specific enthusiast and the amount on this Evo site, they are either blind or purposely lying to themselves and everyone else here.
No other car forum for a year-old car has as many posts regarding problems with the car as this forum does. Certainly not regarding such basic issues and such important ones.
Yes, every car forum has a large thread regarding the major issue that car has - the 03 Cobra's half-shafts or whatever, the 5-speed trans on the WRX, etc. That's one major issue on each car that is known by everyone and the dealerships as well. Most are willing to work with their customers to resolve the issue when it comes up.
Then again, no other new car has so many problems nor ones like rust. But I find it sadly funny that so many here would go out of their way to downplay the ridiculous problems the Evo and many dealerships have.
Just about everyone who has looked for the rust has found it affecting their car as well and a handful of brand new owners have found it before it could start rusting but still had the same damn problem that causes the rust - improperly done rust-prevention coating at the factory, which speaks volumes of Mitsu's quality control and assembly process.
Why are people here insistant on covering up the problems and making up reasons to excuse away the huge volume of complaints owners have with their Evos?
That's the true sickness here. People always complain about their cars on car forums but never in the volume seen here and never with some of the ridiculous issues Evo owners have on their cars and with their dealerships.
If anything you should be supporting the people with legitimate problems and helping to resolve them or helping to bring them to Mitsu's attention. That's the whole point of a forum or community - not to tear down other members, not to claim they're liars, not to **** on them, but to help them and support them if they are being legit.
Why are you lying to yourself and trying to lie to the rest of us by saying things like "oh it's just normal complaining" and "it's no worse than any other forum"? That's incomprehensible.
This place makes me sick sometimes seeing people attacking those with problems when they clearly aren't ricers, newbies to manual transmissions, or 16-year-olds with their first new car - yet that's how you treat them.
Ease up, accept the fact that there ARE problems with a large number of Evos and Mitsu dealerships, and be constructive instead of destructive.
Help get Mitsu to issue a recall to re-spray the anti-rust coating on that rear bracing. Help get dealerships to accept legit warranty claims. Do something. Or do nothing, but certainly don't do something negative to hurt fellow owners and enthusiasts. Dicks.
I'll wait to see how the 04 Evo is in the spring - if anything is fixed on them, what the second version of the car actually offers, etc. I have that luxury. People who already bought their Evos don't, so help them when they ask for help instead of ****ting on them.

After talking with our Garrett Turbo rep I came up with a new turbo to try in our turbo kit. How does 525whp at 28psi sound? At 14-15psi we made 366whp and 18psi almost 400whp. At sane 24psi boost levels I made multiple passes in the 460-470whp range. We still have a stock motor that has never been apart. The only 'strength' upgrade is the ARP head studs. So far we're using all our bolt-on parts and only an S-AFC for tuning. Nothing fancy or special here. Looks like I'm finalizing our turbo trims now and we should have 2 availabe (550hp and 700hp). I'm working quickly to get these kits into production!

Martin

can void our warranties!!! There's not enough ways yet!! It all boils down to the manufacturer NOT backing their cars, period...That's right Fireball, you work for a company who DOESN'T care about it's customer base... no need to fight it.
When was the last time you went to a Toyota dealership and they refused warranty because "you abused it, we can't warranty it..." ??
When was the last time you saw a Nissan rep at a track going "nice run in your 350Z, we're going to deny you warranty!!" ??
When was the last time you went to a restaurant, found something you didn't like about the food and the manager said "well, we don't care, our food sucks anyways and you don't know how to eat..." ???
Yeah, that's right
is the 3rd world of cars and there's nothing new about that.
Okay this is going to be my last post about
and how bad they suck.
1st If you have the car and don't like Mitsu, guess what? SELL THE ****ER and cut your losses, I am TIRED of getting 30 ****ing e-mails about a new post to here someone say, My ***** hurts and I can drive and at the strip I was dropping the car at 6,000rpm and it just sat there smoking. Or I have strange paint chips, or mitsu is watching me at the track lol. If you think Mitsu is watching you at the track and if your car screws up you do not have the $$$ to fix it guess what? DON'T ****ING GO TO THE TRACK, I even heard someone say there were going to go but take off there plate, that has to be the dumbest **** I have ever heard. Again if you are worried about your warrantee don't go. People please stop with all of this *****ing about how this car sucks; if it sucks sell it and stop posting to these ***** fests. If you are just pissed because you broke the car tuff ****.
Think for yourself and you will be better off. Also what problems have you had with your car, And you must be a dumbass for buying such a piece of ****. Sell it and get a honda
