I've heard of this happening before. I'd be proud of it Just goes to show you that it does actually function.

carbon fiber does bend at high speeds, back when I was stock I went 160 mph and had no problems with it cracking....

evo 8 wings arfe full carbon fiber.. the 9s they slacked and only used carbon fiber in the center.. hence yea the 8 wings are def stronger...
but this is also new to me havent heard of this happening on the 9s..

I'm surprised more people don't pay attention on these forums. This isn't the first thread I've seen about this in a little over a year of browsing the forums.

The last thread I saw was much more detailed. Started out the same, a guy talking about breaking his wing when he was going well over 100mph in his 9. Consider yourself lucky. The last guy actually destroyed his trunk when it broke.

The consensus of the thread was that the 9 wing is hollow and will break if you go fast enough. The 8 wing is solid carbon fiber and can withstand many times the abuse.

Use the search. You can also weaken the wing over time using it to close the trunk and hold beverages putting hairline cracks in it that later show when you go to fast. It made me want to put an 8 wing on my 9.

Yup, the 9's are hollow while the 8's aren't. Also as mentioned above, using the wing to close the trunk, as a beverage/tool holder, etc. will weaken it over time. The IX blades are still very strong though and my guess is prior damage existed to the ones snapping.

I never expected that the wing on the on car would not be sturdy. Or wait. Was it removed then installed or something?

not an evo, but i can relate since it happend last week =( I bought an extremely rare wing from a company in japan that didnt ship out of the country, took three middlemen to get it, and a very pretty penny. Almost never drive the car fast, so i when i finially hit 140+ mph off it went Sucks because it almost took a year to get since it got caught in customs both ways, such a waste lol so wingless ftw. At least the STI i was running saw the whole thing
