Evo VIII gas smell under boost/wot ?

Like the title says I recently puchased a 05 evo with 40,000 miles and under boost/wot I allmost instantly smell gas fumes while driving. When I let off and return to cruising speed the smell disipates. I'm looking for a little help with this has anyone had a similar problem, ideas on what to check?

You should not smell gas in the cabin. Check the fuel pump, it is under back seat.

Do what everyone else said - the injector seals can go bad just being out in the weather, regardless if the car is stock or not.

Injector seal leak is dangerous. You should check that ASAP.

This is highly unlikely but, was the car previously involved in an accident? There are ventilation points that could have been left unrepaired after previous body damage. When i was rear ended next the the passenger side quarter panel, the entire body section flexed. After that every time I hit boost I would smell engine fumes in the cabin. After the repair was done the smell disappeared. Check this last if you have not found a solution yet.

Also note that just because you bought it in stock form that doesn't mean it's always been that way. A lot of guys put their car back to stock before they sell it.

I had a similar issue. Turned out to be a ruptured fuel hose on the drivers side of the fuel rail.

I would check if the car was put back to stock that the OEM boost lines with pills were reinstalled. I'm new to DSM's/Evos but its my understanding that the stock MAP sensor doesnt read to full boost so if your boost pills/ lines were incorrect maybe you aren't boosting fully and the computer is just dumping the "pre-determined" amount of fuel in for where it thinks the boost should be causing you to run richer and smelly!

Or its a small fuel leak somewhere.
