Lancer Evolution RS Thread [MEGA MERGE]
watz da problem, man?
Just by Mitsu. offering the RS, means they want to continue to support the EVO in the US market. Who knows...this may be a move so that they bring the GSR out to the US also in the near future.
For me and my 2003 USDM Evo VIII, it means I have a source on a LSD for the front, and a few more handling mods, straight from the USDM parts bins.
Later,
jcnel.

Hey, more power to the RS. I am looking forward to buying a 2004. The RS probably won't be it. I think most of the people on this thread are just upset because we see models like the FQ300 and MR that are being released in Japan and Europe. They could at least offer the '04 US (GSR, if you will) with the LSD and brace that the RS comes with.

Oh well, at least
offered this car to us.
RSs, as previous mentioned, are meant to be built for track use (most of the time). Very rarely are they used as daily drivers due o their lack of creature comforts - thus, most RSs sold elsewhere in the world are as they would be here (small production) - as the target audience is a relatively small group of enthusiasts. Typically they would be sold to racing teams and/or people looking for a weekend track car only.
I'm sure that's more than the M3 has ever won!
Actually, no. While the EVO is ****, it ain't no M3..
The E30 M3 is the winningest car in German Touring class racing EVER. (that's like in history, you know?)
And while we are tehcnically on our 8th version of the Evo in just over 11 years, the E30m M3 had 7 versions in a hair under 4 years time..(car was built from 1988-91)
BMW Motorsport developed seven mechanically-differentversions of the E30 M3. Four were regular production models: European-spec without catalyst, European-spec with catalyst in 195 hp and 215 hp versions, and North American-spec. The remaining three were Evolution limited editions known as the Evolution I, Evolution II and Sport Evolution. These were built to homologate updates to the engine and aerodynamics for racing purposes. There were also three further special editions with mainly cosmetic variations: Europa Meister '88, Johnny Cecotto and Roberto Ravaglia. All E30 M3s were built exclusively in left-hand drive
What makes the E30 M3 unique? The same things that set the EVO apart..
Why is the E30 M3 considered a homologation model?
The main impetus for the E30 M3's existence was Group A racing, a production-based class that demanded that each race car share its core mechanical components with a road car, of which at least 5,000 examples had to be produced. Thus, BMW Motorsport designed the race car first, then applied the necessary changes to the road car in order to homologate the competition machine.
I love the EVO but have a soft spot for the last true race bred and driven on the street performance car....the E30 M3 ..

Talk about true race bred cars. Hardtop version is the big
for me.

The Evo has as great and as awesome a racing pedigree as the M3 - just that it got it's image from rally and not from GT.
You have to understand that the Evo is like a household icon elsewhere in the world. It IS that awesome of a car. Here in the US we are *just* starting to understand how truly amazing this car is.

And likewise, the Evo holds the record for 4 consecutive WRC Driver's Championships.
I love special cars ESPECIALLY the ones that were conceived for the track at their inception..(E30 M3, EVo's,Porsche's, the list goes on)

The EVO has great racing wins, but is FAR shy of the number that the E30 M3 has..
Taken from the BMW Motorsport page..and LAST time I will post about the E30 M3 cuz I know people are going to start throwing tomatoes at me..
"........In just under six years time, the BMW M3 would win over 50 international titles, racking up an astonishing 1,500 race victories along the way. "
:......Even into its twilight years the M3 just couldn't stop winning and it was only a change in the format of touring car racing, rather than any fall-off in form, that allowed the M3 a well-deserved retirement from the track..."

The EVO and old body M3 share A LOT in common though..Both were/are absolute SLEEPERS on the race tracks, compete in Rally AND hill climbs, etc., and both have absolute SCREAMERS for engines IE four cylinders...
Actually, there are few cars that I would go out and buy in the last 13 years..(being in the car biz means I don't have to own anything, I could drive whatever..)
But I have bought a 1997 GTi VR6 new in 1997..(great little csar..Toss up between the 318TI hatch with a sport package..)
1995 Acura Integra GSR Sedan..(believe it or not, winter transportation..)
1988 BMW E30 M3.. (Silver with Red Leather Recaro's..SWEEET)
2003 EVO..This is the coolest car I have owned..BETTER than the old body M3 in a lot of ways..(newer and more reliable for one)
I love the EVO..I love the comaraderie on this board, I love the passion everyone has for the car and....*sniffle*...I love you man..

But the M3 is quite the car... maybe when I'm older and can't get away with driving a big winged car like the Evo, I'll settle for the M3... puahahah.
