SES CEL On - No Spark or Turnover Until 7th Time Trying to Start The Car.

I have an evo ix se with light mods and tephra v6.

This morning when i went to start up the car I could hear the fuel pump but got no spark/turnover at all.

After trying to start it a good 6/7 times it started up - followed by the SES light staying lit.

Is this a common issue? I'm not sure what would cause no spark - perhaps my rotor is going bad?

I used to have an integra before my evo ix and with the integra I could short a plug and get the CEL to flash respectively for the code being thrown.

Is this not possible with Evos and if not is there a recommendation for a scanner? Could I use something like evoscan scantool for this as well?

You can use EvoScan to pull the codes, but you need a Tatrix Cable. If you have that, you can pull the codes and clear them if necessary.

If the pump is running, then it's getting power. But if you aren't getting any crank/turn over, then it sounds like a starter. Just to test the batter, put the key to the on position and check to see if you get headlights, radio, A/C, etc. That can eliminate a battery issue.

I was able to start the car today.

There have been 3 other instances where I would try to start the car, it wouldn't crack and then it would work after a 2/3 tries......but this morning is the first time it took 7 tries and the SES/CEL came on.

Could be crank angle sensor

If a USDM ECU are the same as a JDM You can flash the codes by shorting pin 1 to pin 4 on the ODBII connector

Interesting - I'll have to look into this - I'll probably stop by autozone on the way home but most of those employees don't know what they're doing.

^^

The plug is directly under the dash right about where your right knee would be. Shouldn't be too hard.

So this is strange - I went to the bodyshop yesterday to check out a dent and get an estimate. Upon leaving the lot I had to haul *** because of traffic - Did some tokyo drifting and the CEL went away.

So I'm not really sure what happened and I wanted to know the issue but at the same time it's gone now - I do assume, however, it will appear once again.

I've had codes cycle by themselves. You should still get the cable so that you can always tell whats going on with the car.
