Why dont you just get a miata battery they are smallish and provide pleny of CCA. Plus when it does die down the road its easy to replace. All you need to address is customizing the braket. I am sure that if you do your homework you could find a 'lighter' that normal miata battery without going into the mini battery zone.

So maybe you save 5-10lbs off the front of your car......

battery box is on its way here

I have had the same Odysey PC680 battery for 4 years and even after sitting 2 weeks in the cold Ohio winter it starts. It's been GREAT. I've had worse luck than that with full size batteries after they are this old..my mini battery is still going strong.

I have a brail mini-battery, and on a SUPER cold ( <20) degree day, I have to jump it, other than that, sometimes it's a little slow to crank on cold day. I think the weight-savings is worth it though.

if you drive (start) your car everyday, a lightweight battery might be ok, but if you leave it sitting for 4-5 days, it will probably be dead (15 lb battery). prepare for a lot of jumps. the weight savings are really not worth giving up the piece of mind that your car will definitely start (esp. for a street car imo.)

I have a mini battery and I leave my evo sitting for 2-5 days all the time. Still start right up, even in 30-40* (even though thats not that cold)

i have a gutted trunk, so if i relocate the battery to the trunk can the plastic battery tray prevent the battery from draining by sitting on metal?

I've ran a PC680 in my Evo for a bit now. It was in there about a year when I first bought it, then I put it in my drag Talon for a year or two and drained it a bunch of times trying to work on the cold start settings and then used it in my Evo again after buying it back a little over a year ago. It only needed a jump once this past winter after letting the car sit outside in ~20* weather a few consecutive days but was fine being used every day though.

I recently upgraded to a JMF PC925 battery kit and still have plenty of room for aftermarket IC piping. (which I still have yet to make for myself ) It cranks strong like the stock battery, weighs less, and takes up just a tiny bit more room than the 680 did.

I run the Deka $60 Battery. Had it for about 6 months, other than a few times of it not turning of fast. it works great. This is of course after turning the car on and off 2-3 times within a half hour. If you just need turn on power, a mini battery works, I would have done a trunk kit if I didnt get that Battery for $60 bucks. I made my own tray for $1 using the stock tray and some bolts from homedepot.
