I have an 11 year daughter who has been 'driving' with me ever since I picked-up my new Evo IX-MR in Nov. '05. She sits in the middle section and there are no issues. As 'Eeboh' above put it perfectly: "As long as I drive like a Dad, everything is fine." That's it in a nutshell! You want to drive like your on a race track, do that ALONE. Best of luck! Go for an Evo!

Couple that with being a safe, conscious driver and there truly is no reason to doubt its safety level. I feel 110% confident piloting my Evo with my wife and 11 year old son, wherever it is that we go. Upon impact could be an entirely different story, but 9 times out of 10, the wing survives
Does your son like the Evo? Ever drop him off at school with it?

After all the help he has given me throughout my ownership of the Evo, he may just inherit it. He is always there helping me keep it beyond immaculate and whenever I fire it up, he is there waiting for that ride. The words " I wish I could own it someday", has been stated only once, but the feeling behind it and the look on his face had genuine meaning/feeling.
Being a school teacher, on a rare day or two I would take the Evo to school and all of his friends would immediately stare and ask him questions about it.
We both love it

I dont have kids of my own, but my 6 year old nephew is particularly interested in cars, and loves riding and helping me with my car. Just the other day, he helped put my wheels on. I hold the torque wrench while he strenuosly cranks away... I've been trying to talk my sister and brother in-law into letting him go-kart at our regional solo 2 events.

To all of you bashing kids with evo's, make sure you take a step back and realize that not every kid is the same when it comes to owning them.

My first car at 16 was a 200hp (intake/exhaust) 2002 VW Passat GLX, which i never scratched. My second car, when I was 17 and almost 18, was a 2004 Evo VIII with 497whp, which was also my first stick car. I owned it for about 2 years, sold it, and then bought a 2006 White STI (safer, more refined, a bit less cop attention even with 325whp)... Not one accident, and only one speeding ticket for 9 over on a highway... I don't think you can judge every "kid with an evo/sti" the same way, and it would be appreciated if you didnt bash all of us.

Back to the thread topic, I would recommend something safer. Some pics of the evo i have seen when it was tboned were disgusting...

How did this thread go from parents with Evos to kids whose parents allowed them to buy an Evo?

Check https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/of...er-merged.html.
None of those Evo 8's or 9's did too well in an accident. Just saying.

I spun my first Evo at 50mph and slammed into a guardrail head on and went home with a bruised knee and slightly sore neck. I feel like they're pretty safe.

I'm not sure what to think with all these conflicting reports of the Evo 8/9's safety... is the 10 a lot safer?

I would say go for it. I plan on my IX being my "mommy car" once I have kids. As long as you arent driving like a idiot or racing around town -your fine. That goes for any vehicle. I say keep it unless your looking for side curtain air bags and all the extra extra safety stuff like that...if so go get a volve

This is a really hard debate. The simple route, as what everyone has been saying, is that if you don't drive like an idiot then you'll be safe. It's kind of a hard call because when you talk about accidents it's about something happening unexpectedly, and not you losing grip while racing when having a kid in the back, which would be crazy anyways. Accidents could happen to anyone at anytime and getting t-boned at 65mph is still dangerous, no matter the car. I would like to add that the evo would be great at manuvering and stopping againt a potential rear end collision if the front car slammed on the brakes.
