QTP down pipe opinions

So as of right now I have a totally stock VIII MR. In the spring I plan on doing a few things (E-85, MBC, drop-in/cone filter, fuel pump, injectors, tune, and other things... more to come next year).
Well like most people I was going to do a full TBE... but then I was thinking, what if I kept the stock cat-back and did a QTP down pipe with the exhaust cutout and a test pipe? That way I can keep it quieter then a TBE when I want, but then make the car scream like crazy with a flip of a switch. What do you all think? Does anyone have this?

Btw... If I did a TBE, I was thinking a normal 3" down pipe, test pipe, then the ETS cat-back system (3" or 3.5")

Yes i am running the Quicktyme Electronic Cutout. I would not have it any other way. Its the best of both worlds. It is a big intimidation factor to other cars too when you open it up. Just get it tuned to run in the open position, but be forwarned after you modify the car and do bigger injectors, pump turbo etc you will clog up the stock cat. So I would sell the stock cat and buy a very good aftermarket performance one. This setup works very well because the cars exhaust is mostly stock and if you daily drive your car or do road trips having a quiet exhaust is more enjoyable.

You don't have to buy a testpipe, good thing about the qtp dp is it retains the factory cat and catback, so all u have to do is buy a 02 housing and qtp dp.

Wouldn't the stock cat and catback cause to much of a restriction when he gets tuned with the QTP downpipe open? I think it would run weird with the cutout closed so the only time you can go wot is with the cutout open? Not sure about all this just a thought.

Do gotta say though, when I had a cut out my car sounded like such a beast. Specially with cams, I miss my cutout

That is why you only get on it when it is open. Your other option is purchasing a boost activated cutout such as the atp. This way the cutout only opens under full boost.

Thats exactly what I have, stock catback but with a dcsports downpipe/testpipe with the qtp cutout welded where the testpipe is.
The only difference in the tune was when the cutout is open I gained 43whp and the boost went up about 3 psi due to the decrease in backpressure.
I had the ets 3in before and got two exhaust tickets so I had to do something about it and I wouldn't have it any other way now. it's great!

Okay, so as of now... most people think this is a good idea. And aznfballer79, I kind of like the way you did it. The QTP is kind of expensive, so I think getting a normal down pipe and then welding a cut-out into the test pipe would be good also.

Yeah that's how I did it. You can buy a dcsports one that is a 3inch one piece dp/tp and it mates up perfect with stock catback then just have someone measure cut and weld it in. I paid 100 to have mine done.
Any other q's pm me if you need

One thing you should know though that it is INSANELY loud. Very annoying sometimes so that's something to consider before you go all the way and weld it in. It's cool and all but not beig able to go WOT unless it's open after a tune kinda sucks.

Ya, I was actually thinking about that just a few hours ago... it kind of sucks that I cant really go WOT when its closed and stuff.
