remove top dash panel or whole dash
i need to remove the top dash panel that covers the passenger airbag. do i need to remove the whole dash or does the top panel come out by itself.
thanks,
thanks,
just wondering y you need to remove it taking out the air bag ? ive taken the dash out of my evo a few times and i would just remove the hole thing its alot easier then a honda the wiring harness does not snake thru the dash as much.
you have to take the whole dash out, if you take only that panel off you got a big chance of setting off that airbag, it does not take much to make the chemicals in the airbag ignite, if your batter is connected and you touch the wrong thing and it ignites the small box in their, ur airbag is gonna come out, safer to take the dash out.

i'm fairly mechanically incline. i just want to reduce the amount of work as much as possible. i'm currently in the process of reinstalling the engine, tranny and drive train. so i want to save as much time as possible.
having a diy tutorial would help out a lot with finding hidden screws and clips.
If I read the service manual correctly, the dash has to come out. Then you remove the airbag. It shows a special way of prying with screwdrivers to get it to release from the dash.
BTY, the section in the manual on the airbags and pretensioners is over 100 pages long with lots of warnings. I'd suggest you obtain a copy if working with this stuff.

Just FYI, as I found this thread. You can't, the screws to remove the top part of the dash are not in a manor which you can get to all of them without removing the entire dash.
I've done it to cover my top dash in suede, its not hard, takes about 4 hours in and out.
Screw driver and 10mm socket is all you need.
