Talking whats the BEST way to clean a transmission

hey well i have my motor and trans apart.. and wanted to get it cleaned up before i put it back in. Main reason being that it got covered in axle grease when my boots ripped plus the normal dirt that gets on it. i tried the best i could with simple green/ some random degreaser and brake cleaner.. still looks nasty

what do u guys recommend would work good? any special steps to be taken/ how tos?

Thanks

i used kerosene on a scrubber pad/sponge thing and also a little wire brush. its a real pain. next time i'm just going to tape stuff off and sand blast it.

3m brake cleaner should take it right off. It worked great for mine and a couple friends.

I would recommend a full strength degreaser and lots of scrubbing.
Unless you have it media blasted your not going to be able to make it look "new":

I would not use a wire brush.... either media blast it and paint, as mentioned previously, or use a nylon brush and simple green. Also, make sure you remove the TOB before you start spraying degreaser in there, cover any breather holes, and electronic ports with baggies and rubber bands before you start. Also, make sure that after you are done, you re-lubricate the input shaft, tob, fork before you slide everything back together.

contaminated transmission

I'm rebuilding an engine my transmission was covered but it must the ripped. Its a5 speed manual transmission and a little water got into it. Just seeing what's the best way or what can I put in it to flush all that crap out. I open up the drain and filled it with transmission fluid and let it run through it but is there any other way. Thanks
