What would it take?: Evo versus GTR
Does this help? I know there is a video of it to...

anyways the important thing is an evo belongs in the mud not at the track.

i love the evo because i like working on my own cars and if I F**K something up on the evo its cheap and not a big deal, you just buy new parts. The GTR on the other hand is a little more tricky and more expensive also i love the evo community and all the innovation that goes on with Dave Buschur, AWD motorsports, STM, and all the other shops that push the limits!!!
It doesn't say how much it cost for the whole package though.

The 2012 GTR is even more insane with 0-60 in 2.9 seconds at 20 psi! I would love to have one!

I think a lot of people are forgetting that your comparing a 35k car to an 80k car. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Track wise imo ud need an hta green e85 with full supporting mods and a decent coil setup. Personally I think on an auto-x or a rally course the evo has the advantage all day. And the gtr will have the advantage in the 1/4 and the track.
If i could I would own both an Evo and a Gt-R so I could choose either one depending on what my mood was. In my opinion it would be more fun to slap the tar out of a douche in his new 5.0 trying to showing off to his chick If I was in my Evo that's 30k instead of a gt-r that's 80k.
Wat would it take to beat a gtr...
Perfect example buschurs project white. Ive raced a 09 gtr off the line. Dont see how they are goin under 3.5 seconds in the 60ft. Then again best mod is the driver mod

Nice! Gotta give credit where credit's due.
Id say 30-40k in mods.
Looking at about 15k+ in mods both performance, tranny, etc.
Something like 10k+ in suspension +tuning the suspension.
You'll need wheels, tires, amazing brakes and pads, lets say 8k+.
Last you'll need aero mods, probably a body kit (or at least say front bumper/rear bumper/diffusers ), wing, etc. Thats another 5k+
What makes the GT-R so fast is it's transmission. The ability to shift in under .02 seconds.. is just short of a miracle. I see videos all the time of GT-R's beating TT Lambos with E-Gear just because of shift speed.

Make the Evo better than the GT-R in what way?
Autocross? Rally racing? Drag racing? Top speed? Road racing? Street car? All of these roles require different things from a car and in some of those areas the Evo is the better platform to start from, in others its not.
Top speed, the Evo is never going to be the choice over the GT-R. It doesn't have the aero, the wheel base, the displacement... you name it. You might be able to make it reach the same speeds as the Nissan, but its going to cost a ton of money and the platform isn't designed for it. You would be better off with a Supra.
For hardcore racing the Evo is easier to strip down and race than the GT-R due to price of parts, warranty, and few people are going to buy a $82-$100k car and gut it for racing. It's the same reason you see more MX-5s, 240SXs, and DSMs as dedicated race cars than Evo Xs, GT-Rs etc. The Evo is much lighter even before gutting it. It also has a long history of modification and great aftermarket support so parts are plentiful, cheap, and the way to make power and cut down times are well known.
A lot of the Evo guys in the States are into drag racing, and its a hell of a lot cheaper to hit 9s in an Evo than a GT-R. Both cars can do it, but for the GT-R it has to push into new territory, and deal with ECU/transmission issues. The cost to do so is much higher.
Rally racing... The Evo was designed for it, and I doubt you are going to see any WRC GT-Rs. It's not designed for that.
Road racing both cars have advantages and disadvantages. The twin-clutch transmission and active yaw control in the GT-R turns the most hamfisted driver into a superstar, but its also a big heavy car. A modified Evo purpose built for road racing will be a cheaper more capable platform dollar for dollar. If you had tons of money, the GT-R is viable platform. Cobb is turning some very fast laptimes with their time attack GT-R. For all the same issues as drag racing though, the top Time Attack cars are Evo VIIIs and IXs.
Street car then? If you want a comfortable ride on the road with full interior, stereo, nav, and stupid power the GT-R is worth every penny. You cannot make an Evo even remotely as fast or capable on the street without giving up luxuries. If you are a psychopath like me... and you like driving around on the street in a gutted caged race-bucket the Evo is the better car. I would feel pretty guilty about tearing the interior out of a brand new GT-R. I also prefer a clutch pedal to twin-clutch.
They are both great cars, and for most people on this forum who have modded their Evo to drive on the street with occasional trips to the drag strip the GT-R will almost certainly be better if they have the money for the initial purchase. I personally would love to have my Evo as the dedicated track car, and the GT-R for the street car, but the Evo takes enough of my money as is. If I ever wreck the Evo then I might get a GT-R as a replacement. I like them both.
