EVO MR JDM Headlight Set - which bulbs do I need?

ok, so I have a EVO MR JDM Headlight Set that is going on a car that doesn't have HID from the factory. I know I need a conversion kit with ballasts and bulbs but what I don't know is which model bulbs.

I understand that a USDM car that comes with HID uses the following but I'm not sure this applies to the MR JDM Headlight Set
Low beam D2S
High beam 9005

JDM Low beams are the same as USDM, high beams as well. They will however have different fogs. Make sure to get an aftermarket HID kit with D2S Bulbs and D2S Adapters. Since you don't have OEM HIDs, you will need to swap the harnesses from Non-HID to the JDM HID harness.

good info thanks. I guess I'm confused about what the JDM headlight assembly will need.

There's three major pods for lights and my assumptions:

1 - HID (used when the lights are on low and high beam but only uses a low beam HID bulb??), what part number? D2S?
2 - High beam non HID, what part number?
3 - Fog light? what part number?

Wouldn't suggest using OEM bulbs, as they're expensive from the dealer. Just make sure the Low beam bulbs are D2S, High beam are 9005 bulbs, and JDM Fogs are 9006.

So the owner is happy to blind on comming traffic with RHD projectors just so he can rock black headlights with amber turn signals (o_O)
Crazy Yanks!!!!

The JDM HID headlight (also USDM HID) will have a wiring harness with an 8 PIN connector:
* 1 PIN for D2S Low Beam (+)
* 1 PIN for D2S Low Beam (-)
* 1 PIN for Turn Signal (+)
* 1 PIN for Parker (+)
* 1 PIN for Turn Signal & Parker (-) (Spliced together)
* 3 PINs for 3 wires that come out of the Levelling motor

The USDM halogen headlight (also JDM halogen) will have a wiring harness with a 4 PIN connector:
* 1 PIN for HB4 (9006) Low Beam (+)
* 1 PIN for Turn Signal (+)
* 1 PIN for Parker (+)
* 1 PIN for 9006, Turn Signal & Parker (-) (All spliced together)

* HB3 (9005) High Beam for both Halogen & HID vehicles is connected from the 2 PIN connector comming from the wiring harness of the car (not the headlight). It connects directly to the back of the bulb.

* HB4 (9006) Fog Light for JDM & USDM HID vehicles are connected from the 2 PIN connector comming from the wiring harness of the car (not the headlight). It connects directly to back of the bulb. Halogen vehicles will need a 9006 harness made up + an incabin switch to run the Fog Light..

As mentioned ^^ you need to remove the 4 PIN wiring harness off the back of the USDM Halogen headlight and switch it over to the JDM HID headlight.

When you get your D2S HID kit you will also need a 9006 low beam wiring harness so the HID ballast is plug & play with the 9006 connector on the car's wiring harness..

You will need to decide where you want the D2S wiring to exit the headlight. Either:
* drill a hole in the low beam waterproof cover then completely seal the large hole underneath the headlight where the OEM ballast is normally mounted.
Or
* feed the D2S wiring from the ballast hole underneath the headlight. Somehow seal and reduce the size of the hole so it's only big enough for the wiring. You won't need to touch the low beam waterprood cover at all going this method..

I got an EVO 8, that I've had since new, didn't have fog light bulbs installed for some reason, but was already set up for them from factory with an in-cabin switch and an H11 connector running up to the headlights...

A while ago I changed the headlights to JDM headlights. I bought standard H11 bulbs (because that's what the dealer said the stock setup uses), and I was thinking they'd be the same for the JDM fog lights portion. The H11's work fine and light up when I plugged them but they didn't fit into the JDM fog light base in the headlight assembly.

So now, I think I got the info I was actually looking for from this forum post. JUST TO CLARIFY...

PROBLEM: EVO 8 stock FOG light bulbs are wired for H11 with an H11 fog light base obviously... and when you put in JDM headlights, the FOG light base is 9006 (aka HB4)??

SOLUTION: To buy 9006 (aka HB4) bulbs for the fog lights and get a harness "H11 to 9006" that will basically plug into the stock H11 end and convert it to 9006 end?

Right?

^^ you need two things to make it PnP:
* 9006 (HB4) bulb.. It's stamped on the back of the fog light housing
* Adaptor harness that has H11 (male) connector on one end & 9006/HB4 (female) connector on the other end...

Not sure if TheRetrofitSource dot com already have this harness pre made but you can't certainly ask them to make you one... Tell him Stevo sent ya...

@ iEvoVIII, thanks. Yeah i actually ordered the 9006 bulbs from ebay yesterday, Super Yellow 3000k, and the harness that converts to a 9006/HB4 tip. All for under $20, maybe not the best thing but ill see how it turns out.

@ SunnyC, the H11 connection for the fog lights was never plugged in by the factory nor did it have any fog bulbs installed, the H11 tip was just rolled up by the high and low beam bulb connections ready to be used. And the fog light switch/button in the cabin is by the headlight height adjuster switch just under the left rectangle shaped vent. My model has the SSL package if that makes a difference. (I got a pic but not sure how to upload on here).

Get oem quality bulbs and ballasts, it really makes a massive difference. If your already spending the large amount of money that jdm lights cost, at least spend some money on decent hid components. Pick up a set of Denso, matsu****a, or even used Mitsubishi oem ballast. Thu will have a very fast warm up time, put out a true 35w, unlike most aftermarkets which put out less, and they will last longer. Just put them in a water proof location. For a good set of bulbs, try to find a set of OEM osram bulbs, or go to the retrofit source and get a set of Philips 85122+ bulbs (4300k don't colorshift), osram cbi (brightest 5000k bulbs on the market) or osram SVS (brightest 35w 4300k bulbs on the market). Oem branded bulbs will last significantly longer than aftermarket, and are far more reliable. Buy new bulbs only as HId bulbs lose brightness over time.

Also your going to be losing a lot of light on your side of the road using wrong hand drive projector, too much of the light will be getting thrown onto the oncoming lane instead of down your lane. Picking up a set of usdm evo 8 or 9 lights is the way to go. If you drive on the right side of the road.

just want to confirm here - the JDM foglight housing needs a 9006 bulb? I bought the Nokya9102 harness - cut the OEM foglight harness, splice these on, and connect 9006 bulbs and install?

Not to resurrect an old thread, but, just to be sure. According to one of the posts above, would this work?
