Are cops attracted to the average Evo or average Evo driver?
I usually drive my Evo about 5 over the speed limit and only really get on it when merging on a highway. Other than that I just putt around town. I don't have a very loud exhaust, except when I get on it. I haven't really had any issues with the local law enforcement except for the first time last week.
I got pulled over for supposedly not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign leaving my neighborhood. I acted cool, polite, and kept my hand on the steering wheel the whole time unless I was giving the officer something he requested to see. I have a conceal and carry license and when you have that you have to be careful. The officer let me go with a warning. I was actually surprised since most state, county, and city budgets are hurting for income.
The last few times I've been pulled over I've been let go with a warning. I've found that as long as you don't come off like a jackass and weren't driving like one, they'll usually let you go with a warning.

I actually get pulled over more in my turbo CRX. Something about that car they just don't like. Cops do linger around my Evo alot though (as if) causing that irritating funeral traffic procession. I always put my tinted windows down all the way (all 4) and keep my hands high on the wheel when they roll up on me (Miami has a reputation for itchy finger cops). I actually had a county duo pull on the side of me acting like they wanted to race and tell me to 'hit it one time'. I just laughed and told him no way in hell I'm falling for that one

Thats funny how cops can react when they cross you on the road
here in quebec,
all depends of what type of cops you cross, some will smile you, some will ignore you but the bad things is...some will turn 180 degrees to check if you are loud when you are just riding normaly not on "WOT" with some friends.. thats make me so angry :@...but yeah i had an HKS hi-power very loud.. and maybe i was young in their eyes to got my IX, at 19, one more reason why they pull me to do a verification.
personnally im not always cruising higher than speedlimit and ill "WOT" rarely... just to show how it run the first time i see someone (like someone said before hehe)... and i just think evo in general will not attract "normal" cop if your cars is not full of decoration o.O, they understand its a car they wont cross all the day !

Probably depends on the cop. I've had 1 cop follow me and I wasn't doing anything. I even turned onto a couple different roads and he followed me. I guess he hoped I'd do something.
I had a cop pull me over and write a ticket for some law that didn't exist. Took it to court and got it thrown out.
Other than those 2 instances, I've never had any issues with cops.

Its the driver! I've owned my car for 5 years, and have been pulled over once because my license plate light was out. I travel a lot for work, so I am constantly on the road. No local or state troopers have bothered me. Don't drive like an idiot on the road and they wont bother you.
I dont really get harassed by the cops in my area to much accept when they feel like getting me for my window tint which is once or twice a year. I drive the car aggressively sometimes but not stupid. Sometimes drive 5 mph over limit. You just have to be careful and know when to beat on it and when not to.
Definitely do not put any numbers on your car if you don't want to attract attention =). A friend made me some vinyl numbers for auto-x one season and I figured I would just leave them on. That was a bulls-eye for cops. I got pulled over for not having a front plate, supposedly for my state inspection being expired (it wasn't, expired that month), two for 'failure to make a right turn signal' in a right turn only lane where going straight would have been crashing into a car. I wouldn't drive the car for a week, take it out to go to work (usually go in my wife's car) and in the 5 miles from my house to work I'd get pulled over for some non moving violation. Took the numbers off and I have not been pulled over since lol. Well just once but it happened to be a friend who wanted to say Hi hah. It was impressive how just having auto-x numbers on the side of the car made them look for anything to pull me over. Never got pulled over for speeding, exhaust noise, or anything like that.

One speeding ticket (deserved I guess even though there were people going faster). For the most part local PD leave me alone. I'm usually doing the speed limit or 10-15 over max.
I'm 33, married, 2 kids, own a motorcycle (just sold) and look like I'm 21.

I agree with FJ on the outside of the car. I saw a HUGE diffference when I put a wing on my car and then when I went back to stock (RS). Everybody wanted to race my wing and there were more cops giving second looks or running my plates.
Have had car 5 years one stop, jersey turnpike riding HOV lane. I did have the wing and badges removed before car even left the dealer< not sure if wing or wingless makes diff. I would say it does trend towards no wing = less attention and stops. I do drive the car fast but I travel the GSP and NJTP everyday and I know exaclty where the Police sit NB and SB. I always get off the gas before a crest of a hill and pay attention to all the tail lights as far as I can see down the road.
I got a ticket in a 85 plymouth Horizon a long time ago 118 in a 55. Drinkin all day passd out, friends drew guitars and flames all over my hands arms and neck. The policeman was not very happy when he got to my car. Neither was the judge a few months later loss of liscence 65 days 500 bucks, not to mention all the emissions stuff in the car melted. I also keep my car uber clean inside and out.

I've only been pulled over twice. The first time was right after I bought the car. The state trooper, seeing that I still had the dealer plates on (bought the car in IL thus not getting temp plates), wanted to make sure it wasn't stolen. Had a good laugh about that. I was behind a trooper doing speed limit. I saw him looking at his rear view and side mirrors...he slowed down and I passed him. He pulled me over right away and gave me a warning for no front plante and "amplified" exhaust. Thought it was bs, but figured he wanted to use those as a reason to pull me over in the case he could find anything else on me. I'm 26, have a clean driving record and only really get on it on back roads...other than that...I'm usually only 5 over speed limit...no real issues in the three years I've owned the car
I guess I'll chime in (and echo what Pegasus indicated) but from a standpoint of someone "close to the industry" cough...
1. When you get pulled over, pull immediately to the right when traffic permits.
2. Lower both windows if its practical.
3. Turn on your dome lights.
4. Keep your hands on the wheel unless directed otherwise.
5. If the officer asks for your license, mention to him that you'll be reaching for it in your (whichever pocket or compartment its in).
6. Don't refer to the officer as sir, or dude, or guy, or buddy. Refer to him/her as officer.
7. Yes officer, no officer, thank you officer, stay safe officer.
8. Don't argue with street cops. You will lose. *
* Lets assume a situation where you're driving around in your stock MR and there are 2 sport bikes riding along like jackwagons next to you. You're driving normal and legal (5 over) and they're hassling you. You see the cop, its dark, they rev it up, kill the lights and the cop thinks he clocks you and hears your exhaust (ok a stretch... but its happened I'm sure). The officer says he got you for speeding and asks about your exhaust. You should mention that he may have heard the sport bikes but they went on and let him know that to the best of your knowledge you were obeying the traffic laws. If he says that you're getting a ticket for speeding and loud exhaust... thats it. You're getting the ticket. So simply say thank you officer, have a good night, and carry on. When you get to COURT is where you fight it.
All of that said, this is my second Evo (see my info over there <<<) and I've never been pulled over in either of them. The E5 was damn near a full on race car too.

Just remember you can thwart most issues by removing the wing, keeping windows with tint down (or rolling them down as you get pulled over, never make a cop approach your tint.), and stick to groups of cars and match their speed. When you are alone, slow down more since you are the only sheep grazing which makes you a tasty target. Usually you can get away with the most speeding during rush hour when the "cop per human" ratio is low.
You can then fight the laser by applying a military grade anti-radar coating to your front and rear using IR light and a camera screen to see gaps. Use laser jammers since they aren't radio waves and the FCC can't ban them so they tend to be legal most places.
Then you fight the administrative funding side of things. Vote up Fire and EMS budgets, and rally all your friends to vote down the police budget increases. Usually leads to some getting fired and they have to use their guys to stop real crime instead of harass people. You'll notice after any funding increase that the BS tickets start going back up which shows they are back to being overstaffed obviously.
Here in the Detroit area the cops are really hurting. You can see a night and day difference with regards to the small harassing tickets which will almost vanish, and suddenly no more popo lasering your morning commute. When low on staff, they use the resources properly and allocate them to real crime and ignore victimless activity.
Every day now I almost never see cops on the road and when I do, they are rushing somewhere in a hurry. No more harassment, and I get to speed and drive how I want almost every day without any problems at all. Compared to IL, I'll take MI *any* day of the week. It's lawless here compared to IL that's for sure. No more U-turns just to follow me like they do in IL.
Best of luck in avoiding persecution.....

I agree with this, I have done this everytime. I also turn car off and turn wheels all the way to right. 1st thing I say is Im sorry for making you get out of your car. When I went to court for after melting my Plymouth the officers report did note I addressed him as sir and officer. I have come across way more cool/good officers than the douche ones with stiffys to break *****. For those "close to the industry" please do what you can to rid us civilians of douchey officers.
btw last time I got a moving violation was 1989 in that plymouth.
