Are cops attracted to the average Evo or average Evo driver?
Going from a 350z to an Evo I thought I'd get more attention in an Evo but surprisingly the Z (for me at least) just attracted cops even when I put the stock exhaust back on and I drive usually the speed limit especially if I have the kids with me. My Evo is stock except for an intake and I put a "baby on board" thing on my rear window and I got more attention from douchebag Honda fanboys and a few retards driving a wrx than I do with local cops.
kinda surprised to see this thread still generating--- excuses. Its not profiling in the classical sense, its common sense for a cop. Loud exhaust, fin, bright colors, faster acceleration then cars around it, dark tinted windows etc... ALL are attention getters--from all your buddies and yep for the same reasons cops. I havent been pulled over more in the evo then other cars I have owned and it would behoove many of you to play the game as well. First-- be polite, dont answer the question of " do you know how fast you were going" or " do you know why I pulled you over?"--your asking for the ticket. Roll your windows down, pull over to a safe spot for the cop to walk to your car, keep you hands on the steering wheel. Let him know you see his lights if you have to drive a distance. Dont make threatening/fast moves and tell the cop what your reaching for and if its ok...be nice. If he's a douche be nicer---- amazing how many time this works. be calm cool and collective and not defensive. This requires maturity and it works. Hey, got busted doing 80 in a 65 with my kid in the car and drove away-- no ticket and a great lesson for my kid. Cut the BS and the DB level of the exhaust and that will go a long way. My .02-- good luck.
Don't be that guy who never or rarely is passed, stay out of the left lane except when passing, don't become visibly upset with other drivers (ride their bumper, cut them off, flash your lights, roll down your window to give the hairy eyeball, etc), don't switch lanes abruptly or cross several lanes to pass, ......... These are driving behaviors I see earning a pull over.
I've been pulled over twice in the last 10 years and I was driving an SUV both times: speed trap area and turning right on red in front of a cop car that had a green left turn arrow i couldnt see. Ticket for the speed trap-(otherwise, why have one?)-and warning for the other.
I have not been pulled over in my highly modified Evo or Z. Both have carbon fiber wings, diffusers, spoilers and canards. And 90% of my driving is 10+ miles away from my home and 50% is in another state, so the local cops aren't giving me a pass.
It is much less about the car than the driving. And the driving is in context of the situation and conditions.
There are roads in my region where going 70-75 in a 55 is the norm, especially if you are going WITH the daily commuters. But going 65 in the 55 on the othe side of the road (against the commute) and may get you a ticket.
