Are cops attracted to the average Evo or average Evo driver?
Are cops attracted to the average Evo or average Evo driver?
I wonder what type of person REALLY owns an evo. Im guessing a inconsiderate percentage are made of the older sports enthusiast and a good most of the rest are people like me, although I am yet to meet any evo owners...
I bought my car in late april on ebay, and have since installed a stereo, a complete AC system, center dash guages with AFR hidden in my ashtray, and have completely flashed and tuned my car with ecuflash to 330whp on 93 getting 24mpg. I am a ft verizon slinger and ft mechanical engineering student. Ive gotten pretty good at accomplishing goals, and obtaining and Evo was established this January.
I have now been pulled over 6+ times since may. Im not too sure if the car is attracting the attention, or my personality. I mostly keep to the law of self inhibited speed but I swear, they have an eye for catching me up whenever I do.
I know im ADD as ****, but I have a very assertive demeanor. I rarely make mistakes (that matter). I am a madman on a street bike, and the Evo is a very similar source of adrenaline. Am I an average Evo owner that attracts cops myself? Or are these cars finding their way into the hearts and souls of our police force whenever the chance is given?

Its a combination of both really. Lets face it, the evo attracts attention. Period. Whether its from cops or other fellow "car enthusiasts." The thing is, if youre speeding in an evo, since its a attention grabber, its easier to get caught. If your just driving along doing speed limit and not trying to draw attention to yourself, there is no reason to get pulled over unless ur breaking some law or driving around at 40mph in 2nd gear with the exhaust blaring.
I bought my evo in 2007 and I've only been pulled over twice and both times I got a warning. Maybe it depends on how u drive ur car on a daily basis. I usually go the speed limit, sometimes 5mph over the speed limit. My friends always tell me why I own a evo if I don't drive it like it should be driven. My car has never been on the tracks, never been tuned. It just looks nice.
so theres just a ton of different variables. I was thinking that since this car is on the rare side, that most of their owners acted alike. I bought mine for performance, but I guess I would have equally bought it for its looks
It would help to know what you got pulled over for, but for me I've owned my evo for about 7 months now and have yet to get pulled over *knock on wood* my exhaust is loud, and my tint is definently not legal. Cops do ride my *** sometimes and when I seem them I shift around 2500rpms to be safe. I was speeding once but the cool cop just smiled and waved, and I drive a yellow evo with attracts a lot of attention.
For me I'm still a student, plans are to go into the medical field in the future.
I drive the speed limit 95% of the time, and I hot rod my car on occaionally.
My friend on the other hand owns a blacked out STi and is basically the opposite of me. Always speeds and hot rods the **** out of his car everywhere, but he has been pulled over twice, but got warnings and he's had it for over a year now

I did a little test a while back. I got pulled over three times in a month for pity little things in a new city I moved to. So, I took off the wing to see if thats what it was. I didn't get pulled over in a period of 5 months.
Put the wing back on last month, and got pulled over for something small again
Cops dont profile though

I would agree with the statement above about it being a combination of factors that would cause you to get some extra attention from your local leo's. I bought mine for both the aggresive good looks and performance. I get my adrenaline rush from the car when I head to the road course, 130+mph with no worries about blue lights. When I am not at the track I drive at most 5mph over on the back roads and when in the city I make sure not to accel too quickly and strictly observe the speed limits. So far after almost a year of ownership..... the local leo's just admire the ride
.
Before you say I may be an "older" guy, I am 26 and love to hammer on the car, just not on the streets.
Hope that helps....

well we are obviously more intelligent than STi owners, and me doing WOT runs when tuning didnt help my case of uninvited attraction. So maybe I get on it more than average? hmm.
I got pulled over for loud exhaust and going 15mph over the speed limit. Officer that pulled me over asked if I ever been pulled over for my exhaust. I told him ur the first one. Then he asked where I got my Japanese license plate. I told him eBay
then he asked why I was speeding. I told him I had to take a number 2. Then he let me go.

The only time I WOT is when I'm passing someone, I'm on the highway, I'm in a rush, or I'm showing someone the power for the first time.
Haha nice

I'm willing to bet that I consistently drive harder than most folks on the forum - WOT as much as possible, cornering at speed - but I never get pulled over. Well, once, actually in the last five years - no front plate. No moving violations in the last 16 years. Here is what I attribute it to:
The car doesn't seem broken by being dumped to the ground
It looks better than showroom, literally
No tint
No body decorations
No funny lamps in headlights
No overly loud exhaust
No unreasonable speeding during the rare times I drive on the highway
Granted, I'm 47 with a balding dome, but the fuzz can't really see me in the car until they get very close. I know that a few of the local folks get pulled over somewhat frequently. FWIW, their Evos aren't congruent with the points listed above.
