Evo 8 high pitch squeal help...PLEASE HELP!
I got a high pitch squeal while driving and it is driving me crazy. It does not happen when braking or cannot be simulated. When I look at all the brake parts I cannot see anything rubbing. The copper lube in back of the pad is getting thin and on the anti seize spring there is not a lot of lubricant, other than that all appear fine. This is what I have done so far with no success.
1. Looked at brakes all appears ok about 25% material remaining and wear indicator is not touching rotor.
2. Looked under the car everything seems fine no rock lodged in brake plate that I can see.
3. Put the car on a lift and rotated all tires could not feel anything usual. The rotor rubbing a little on the pad but I think that is normal.
The problem only way I can kind of simulate the sound is when under light throttle between first and second gear change. The squeal come on for about 5 seconds then goes away. . I am lost what to look at next. The car only has 9100 miles on it or go figure??

Can you figure out at least what corner or area of the car it is coming from? This will help you a lot in finding it.
This is about the only advice I can give you for now. Take it out with the radio off and just find the squeal.

I tried that even had my wife sit in the car. The best we can determine is it is the passenger side of the vechicle. It appears the be coming from the back but that is all. I took both brakes apart on the passenger side but all looks fine. The only thing that look usual was some scuffing on the front rotor. I assume at one time some rock or something must have been caught but could no longer see any issues.
Mine squeal from time to time. More like a ringing when cruising than squealing actually. After 5 seconds, +/-1, I'm ready to loss my **** and start heat cycling the brakes. Goes away for a long time. I think it only happens after I've been putting a lot. I.e. brakes low in temp for a lot of miles.

Or is it just when the car is moving and you are not braking?
Have you thought it might not be the brakes? what is the fluid like in your rear diff.?

It does it cruising and when I switch gears between 1st and 2nd it squeals for about 5 seconds. I am not 100% convinced it is the brakes but am lost as to where else to look. How would the differential fluid cause a squeal. Do you mean if there is oil in the differential? The brakes also do not squeal on braking.

I had something simular happen in my beater subie.
I bought it used so I was not sure what had been done to it maint. wise, and have been doing stuff to it little by little (granted it has much more miles on it but I am sure the evo was drove pretty hard).
My wife and I went driving around in the beater and left a gravel raod and started to hear a high pitched squeal/whine coming from the rear. Like you I thought a rock got caught someplace in the back wheels.
After much looking I decided it was the rear diff. The next day I changed the fluid. The fluid inside was a bit old (not sure when they changed it if ever) it was about the color of Dr. Pepper of course thicker. It smelled burned but only if you were close to it (you could not smell it further away).
After I changed the fluid I heard it for the first 5 min. of my next drive but never again. It has been 3 months since I have heard anything. The only thing I can think of is that the fluid in the rear diff. was too thin and broken down.
I am not sure when your rear diff. fluid was last changed if ever but I would try that. Like I said I heard it for the first five min. of my next drive but not after that.
Change your rear diff. fluid and see if that helps. I would not drive it too much until you change it just in case.

After a year of driving my car still have the sound. Acutally it sounds more like a ringing sound with some light squeal during cruising. Just wanted to know if anyone ever had a similiar issue and what was the cause?
