Car must be warmed up. Does throttle need to be 100%?
X2 on clutch switch

I noticed this with my 04 evo. Mines doing the same thing. I had my friend pull it up on his computer and it was set to like 6200 or something ridiculous, so we dropped it down to 5k. I went home and tried it and it went right past 5k to like 6k. I didn't let it get any further.

Factory is set at 5,000.

I would make sure the clutch switch didn't break or come unplugged. You can look up under the dash to find it.

It is the only switch that your clutch pedal will hit when fully depressed.

No, the throttle does not need to be 100%... don't do that. Slowly/smoothly bring revs up to 5500 rpms, if the car is not moving (flat/level) and clutch is fully depressed you will catch at the 2-step limit.

This is how I stage up @6000 without slightly rolling over...although I usually floor it rather than "ease up"
