Sorry it did not work out OP.

On a side note, please pardon my ignorance for a moment.

But isn't low compression in one cylinder just a bad gasket or seal? And also I thought the numbers were supposed to fall between 160-145?

Sorry if it sounds like a stupid questions I am just looking to clarify.

Could've Been but I'm not gonna chance it. From my understanding each cylinder should be within 10% of the next and obviously 145 isn't close. When I called AMS and told em all the info on the car the master tech there told moe once the 145 fell to 140 it would more then likely need to be rebuilt so from that I said screw it

It also had 60,231 miles on it meaning the 60k maintenance service around $1,000 plus the guys at P&L made a good point saying if the engine is in this condition who knows how long the transmission or clutch for that matter will still have left. Sucks but I made the right decision

You beat the bullet not bite it lol smart move.I bought a compression tester from autozone for 23 bucks just so I could test my 07 civic SI with 90K miles and 62K when I bought it used and I have to say I am very impressed on how it turned out I got 210 to 200psi on all 4 cylinders which makes me love her even more, but I will definitely have this tool when my EVO search begins next year.
OP did the dealer gave you an hard time to give you the car for you to get it professionally checked out? and was someone from the dealership went with you to do this or was it you alone?

It was like a used car lot. He went with me yes and no he didn't give me a hard time. After P&L Motorsports tested the compression, me and the guy from the dealer were sitting in the lobby, the manager called me back and took me in to the very back of the shop where all they guys were working. They told me to walk away that the engine is not where it should be and to look elsewhere. They had 7 1000hp STi's at their shop when i was there so i figured I'd heed there advice and move on lol

Ok kool, so far it seems like the 06s IX are getting pretty nicely priced (15.9- 18K) since I last checked.Keep in mind the IX compression is lower than the VIII due to the mivec but once the readings are in the 10% range you should be good.I am thinking when my time comes to start looking I might have to fly out of state to find the one I want.Any color except yellow,a XI but will settle for VIII if the price is right and well maintained with minimal mods, clean both in and out with zero rust.

If u can find a IX for that cheap it has to have a ton of miles on it or there's something wrong with it. The VIII's ive seen around my area are 15-20k depending. And the IX's are 19k+. Good luck though now I gotta try and sell my damn car again!:P I'm looking online at places that buy cars if they'll give me a good price I'll pretty much give it away theres a couple nice Evo's around here

I hear you man,car selling sucks when you are not guaranteed a sale but your 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 should sell pretty easy, every Mazda enthusiast likes that model, before Mazda
started to put a permanent smile on the front of them. The mileage is not that bad for me as long as the previous owner did the proper maintenance and didn't rape the car.In all essence
I would love to find that EVO with 50K miles, middle aged single owner, always garaged kept and well cared for.I can see myself in EVO land already lolol.
I will be running my SI in the ground given that I work in the field and travel up to 300 miles a day,my next car which is an EVO is going to be my weekend car.I can see the darkside getting close lol.I hope your car sells fast and try to do private sale, you can end up with up to 5K more in your pocket.

good job on not jumping the gun. i had a 07 speed3. everytime i boosted that fail boat i thought the block was gone and i was stock. i had a buddy throw a rod in his speed6. i sold the speed after less then a year of owning it. i bought a 06 9 and never looked back. got it for 23k out the door with 54k on it with slotted rotors, great head unit, and everything else was stock with no rust or fading. just keep looking you'll find a good one cheers!
