Evo HVAC - Help? w/ pics

Hi

Having a small issue with my hvac - particularly the temperature (cold/hot) part of it. Turning to cold will pull the cable, which makes the cold air blow out which is working perfectly fine. However, turning the knob to Hot pushes the cable out, if that makes sense, but when the cable "pushes" out it doesnt seem to have enough force to push the actual mechanism to set it at the Hot setting.

This will make more sense in a moment. However, just thought it was also worth mentioning that I have aftermarket placement of the HVAC control unit (see signature) - however, after playing with the cables and turning the mechanism etc, the location of the unit doesn't seem to be playing a role in the movement of the mechanism.

Onto the pictures

Here, it's at the cold function which is fine and the (black) cable pulls the gear mechanism towards

However, turning the knob to Hot, the cable comes out but doesn't force the mechanism to turn and so it doesn't actually get set to "Hot"

Finally, turning the mechanism by hand puts it at its proper position, obviously turning back to cold is no problem since the cable will pull the mechanism

Any ideas?

There are several threads on here with the solution just do some more searching. You can order a replacement part for around $20 which will fix the problem about half the time, otherwise it is around $90 for the whole kit to fix the problem in 100% of situations.

ah. is there a specific name of what the issue is? something with the hvac cable being bent maybe? if so that may be a problem for me no matter what, and it is an issue due to the placement

There is a TSB for this, you can put some grease on the slide..and it should be good.

I think you can put grease on the part on the outside and see if it turns better, or you can follow
The TSB.

Why isn't the black cable locked into the clip that holds it in place? That is the problem.

4CE FED is right. I just had this problem. Of the cable pops out of the attachment clip it will cause problems. Pop it back in or find a way to attach it.

This might help for the knob shaft, but still won't' solve the main problem.
