My goals

Hey guys. So I'm new here (obviously) but I just wanted to get some educated opinions about my goals for my evo. I've done some searching on here but I figured this would help me a little more since I can't find all the info together in any threads, and I'm a complete and utter novice when it comes to evos. Always been a honda guy to be completely honest (don't flame! :-) Am quite capable of doing the majority of my own work on the car, going to school to be an auto tech. I just bought my evo 8 and plan on making it a 400-500 awhp car. Drag it occasionally but mainly a dd. What is that going to entail? I want to do this the right way, buy quality parts and get a good dyno tune. How much engine work is going to be needed if any? What parts need to be upgraded? Is that going to be too much power for a dd? Would I see drivability issues? Just trying to get a feeler on what I'm in for. Thanks!

I know you're new to the forums, but you might get flamed or your thread might get locked. Anyways, there are so many ways and options to get to your goals, you need to go out and find out what you want. And too much hp for a DD is as much as you think is too much or what you can handle.

And welcome to the forums.

Thanks. I'm not new to forums so I knew what I was getting into. Just was looking for opinions not to get spoon fed answers. If the mods wanna lock it then I'll just keep searching, and if people wanna flame then let them. Doesn't bug me any, it's just the Internet.

people always say they want 400-500whp cars... there is a bit of difference in parts and what not that need to be done to accomplish either. 400whp evo 8's can be had with intake, exhaust, walbro, evo 9 turbo, 1000cc injectors, and e85. goal met. i would at least try to figure out which ONE of the two power goals you're aiming for first.

400-500whp is a very big delta ESPECIALLY between different dyno's. For example:
A "500whp" Supra that was tuned by a shop in southern California dyno'd at 410whp at the dyno I go to. But at the end of the day, the same car will trap the same speed technically. Your goals should be related to quarter mile trap speeds or at least HP measured from a specific tuner's dyno. My 02.

well i hate when people say 400-500 whp. Thats 2 totally different animals LOL. when I made 500whp I almost S*** my self in the first week of driving it, and I use to have a crotch rocket. I DD my car but with a 6262 the lag is killer very annoying. The car is a very scary monster, but it lost its fun factor. It will rip ur face off in straight line, but not as fun in the corners. Just something to consider.

one word of advice dont let the price of a part, outdo the quality. Cheap in most cases, ending up short of your hp goal. But in the end you want 400-500 hp, your gas your gonna use will determine how youll get there, but full boltons cams, and either meth injection or e85 or race gas will get you there unless you go bigger turbo. But there is a lot on the forums, just remember buy proven quality parts that way your not spending money twice.
