Advice

Hey all,

Just wondering what some of you guys think about this situation and also what you would do if you were in my place.

A couple of weeks ago I slid into a curb and bent up a wheel (OEM). It's bent badly enough that it needs replaced. I don't want to mess with rebuilding the rim so I've been looking on forums and eBay to find a stock rim.

I found a guy on this forum (spoolinu) that said he'd sell one for 200. I asked if he'd ship overnight and he said it'd be 65.20. It seemed legit so I immediately payed him via PayPal and sent him an email including the PayPal transaction ID and asking him to ship the rim ASAP. This was the Sunday before last.

I didn't hear from him until Tuesday when he said he'd just dropped the rim off to get the tire dismounted. I never heard from him after that. Since then I've been stuck riding my R1 everywhere and it's *******-shrinkingly cold.

Anyway, I got my money back by calling the credit card fraud number. They're going to contact Pay Pal and sort it out.

The problem is that I need a wheel now and if I buy one and the fraud people contact him then he could say, "Ok I'm shipping it now, here's the tracking number." Then the credit card company would take the money back from me and I'd be stuck with two wheels.

*******it I hate that guy. Hopefully he got in a tragic car accident or something of that sort so that there is a reasonable excuse for him dropping off the face of the earth.

If anything this is just a rant/fyi for people getting ready to purchase items from people on the forum. Remember that people can be real *******s and captivating advocates for abortion.

sounds slimey. maybe a loser, maybe he got in an accident and wasn't ABLE to send you the rim as promised. Anyway, if you bought another and he tried to scam you could cite him for an agreement breach i.e. he didn't send the merchandise in a timely fashion as promised. I vote you get another rim for yourself ASAP.

I've had bad experiences buying used stuff online, so I usually just avoid it altogether.

Cool. I think that's what I'm going to do. I've been looking at just getting a set of new wheels and putting the old tires on. It will end up being a little more than the dealer cost of one new OEM wheel and then I could sell the stock ones.

What do you guys think about the Enkei RS6? The only problem I have with them is that they are only 17 x 7. I know my tire will fit on the wheel but won't it look silly? Anybody have any good sugestions for cheap 17x8 or 17x9 wheels?

LOL yeah I would have to agree with that one. You have to be careful buying things online from anyone, sometimes even vendors. If you must...always go by their buyer rating, like on e-bay use the feedback rating....if they have less then a 90%, pretty good chance you'll be one of those people sooner or later

Before I started working for BP, I did own an S2000 and a 350Z. And I did get screwed out of $600 trying to buy a used HKS Hiper exhaust for my S2000.

I was being honest and genuine, not trying to sound hawkish. Even if I didn't work for BP, I still wouldn't buy things online because I don't trust people not to screw me out of my money.

There's a big difference in buying from a company (vendor) and buying a part off of an individual. You have a lot more recourse with a vendor (better business bureau, credit card co, etc).

Usually the credit card company concludes their investigation within a reasonable amount of time (2-4 weeks). I would try to hang tight until then.

If worse comes to worse and you need to order a wheel ASAP, many of us have curb rash on our stock wheels and I suspect you'd be able to sell a lightly used stock wheel in private classifieds pretty easily, if you wound up with an extra one.

I tried buying those same rims from the same thread.

I also believe he tried to sell some things on a Tiburon forum. He wouldn't post pics in the thread. He wanted to PM the pics to people.

Did he give you any specific information on his name, address or phone number. I want to go give him a good a$$ woopin'.

Cool, thanks for the information. He didn't give me anything but a paypal account, and his first name which may or may not be accurate. I was just desperate for a wheel. He said he lives in MD. Oh well, he'll get caught eventually. If there's one thing credit card companies are good at doing its getting their money back.

I just thought of something. If I can get a system administrator of this site to give out the IP address he used for his posts and his PM's to me then I can look up what ISP he was using. After that I can call the ISP and find out which user had that address at the time of the posts and PM's.

I ****ing hate people who nickel and dime other people out of skimpy amounts of money. Ewww.. 265.20.... you really made out like a bandit you dolt! If these folks just spent the same amount of time working hard as they do screwing people they'd have twice the income.

Anybody have any idea who to ask for his IP?

Thanks,
Jake

You need to get ahold of Paypal and get his accoutn shutdown. Paypal has all of his infromation incase you need fro a law enforcement agaency. Although for 260ish a cop will probably just take the information and run with it.
