First off?? How long are you going to keep your car??

The shops out there that are charging the amount you listed need to support the facility, employees, etc. also it comes with a warranty.

Of course you could always shop around.

If you are going cheap and the waterpumps not leaking YET.

Just do the fluids(TC,trans, coolant, rear diff),spark plugs, inspect the wires as they tend to arch at 60K(black marks on the spark plugs).do the serp, balance and timing belts. Pulleys are up to you, but I would change them since you are there.

I like these threads because people tend to freak out about how much maintenence cost. But if taken cared of every 60K, it will last you for years.
For me 60K is like every year, LOL

I try to keep it as long as I can still afford it, probably will do all of what's listed, just need to know if the waterpump is critical to change in most cases cuz that will save me hundreds. and will it be cheaper to do the waterpump while I'm there? if it's cheaper, guess I have no choice.

are you serious? every year? what's the mileage of your car now??

Depends on how the pump looks. Some people dont change it till 120K.

On my car, it's usually 14-16 months or somewhere around that.
Mileage is in my sig. I drive about 120-150 miles a day so I keep up with my maintenance.

$1700 divided by 60,000 miles isn't much cost/mile...

If you are on a budget then why not try it yourself? Wish I was closer...I'd stop by to help you out. I just picked up my timing belt kit today at the dealer and payed $285. Contact some of the vendors around here and get the fluids shipped to you. I personally use Pennzoil Synchromesh and pay a whole $7.00 a bottle (3 of them are need for the transmission). Spark plugs you can order at your local auto parts store and pick them up for roughly $3.00 each.

As for the plugs I replaced mine at 60K as well and they looked very good. Still had their gap and minimal wear on the cathode. But I did the whole maintenance anyway since I saved money doing it myself.
I agree with you on the pump, if you're doing it yourself and the just have to pay for the pump, then I would do it. Massimo only charged an extra $70 to change mine so I did it for the hell of it, but I wouldn't pay an extra $230 just for the pump.

Newer spark plugs (iridium?) last 100k miles. It depends on what type of spark plug, but the evo's come with 100k mile plugs. Cheaper plugs need to be changed every 30/60/90k miles, depending on the type of plug.

How do I check the condition of it? if someone was able to make 120k, I don't think it will fall apart until 90k-100k? is there signs of problem before it gets totally broken down? BTW, the mileage is crazy, honestly I never think evo would make that high mileage cuz of the bad reviews everywhere. But you proved it. why don't you buy a prius so you can save alot of money?? what do you do to drive that much daily anyway?

I believe I still have the stock plugs, should I change it then (alone with the wires)? It still starts up quick.

Yea. I'm thinking to do everything, except I'm still confused if I should do the waterpump and will it cost more to do it later or should I do it while I'm there, unless like others that can make it to 120k, I'll think about changing it. also, is coolant hoses included in the first 60k service? cuz the coolant hoses just blown around 70k on my friend's STi, so I don't know if our car's maintenance is same cuz they're similar cars, but STi doesn't require changing timing belt until 90k, so I guess i don't have to worry about the coolant hose yet? it still feels solid.

Here is a pic of one of my spark plugs at 60K. The gap was still good and it didn't have a lot of wear on the electrodes. Like some have said most could go to 100K probably. Also depends on your tune and other factors of course.

some evo owners are crazy to say that maintenance is expensive. the same guys put in thousands for mods and upgrades, but when it comes to maintenance their cutting every corner. i'm at 44k and have been doing maintenance consistently. i'll most likely do all fluids (trans, coolant, tc, etc.) next week. i just did brakes (pads, rotors, fluid) a few months ago. by the time 60k rolls around, it won't be a burden on my wallet. and this is common for most cars, maybe in the evo its a little premature than an econobox, but you knew that coming into this world.

It is the original iridium plugs. I'd bet they could go another 30k.

Oh and if you anyone was wondering, my 60k cost $520 OTD at Massimo Power about a year and a half ago. I didn't have the water pump done.

Even with the waterpump, it probably won't be over $1k, that's cheap.

1400-1700 sounds right. Its correct. It takes a lot of hours to get this done. Gota drop the oil pan, take apart the pumps, valve cover to replace the valve gaskets, change all the seals etc etc. Basically surgery on your motor without taking apart the cams and rods.

But once done, you wont look back and be paranoid. Just save up. Get it done right.
