LCD Screen Gauges...
what about a setup....
what about a setup that would display on a laptop???? i have been looking for somthing that would work like that for some time now.. I already have the laptop just need the setup

Hey I'm really interested in the HKS system. It seems like the increase in cost when compared with regular gauges would be minimal. Especially for someone like me who is looking to get the whole package. The problem I was running into was that I was running out of space to put the gauges without the dash looking cluttered. This solves that problem really well.
Can anyone tell me if you need a dedicated monitor for the HKS CAMP or could I use the same head unit for radio and DVD's? I am trying to dtermine if I need to get a seperate monitor just for the gauges. Come to think of it, I may do it anyway so that the DVD player can do its thing while I'm driving (for the passenger, of course
)
EDIT: Pioneer has a new head unit out that seems like it would work nicely(they advertise its use for gauges, DVD, radio, and nav):

If you have a UTEC, I am writing software that will display the data that is available to the UTEC... Runs off a Laptop/in-car pc/PocketPC2002+ Its not done yet.. but will make versions available shortly.
There are USB Analog-Digital devices out there, and Digital-Digital inputs.. If you purchased one of those, and tapped into the signals on the ECU (assuming you knew which ones) There's no reason why you couldn't write software for a PC or PPC to display it in human readable form.. but thats more effort than I'm willing to make.

Not sure about the EMS...I think it's only supposed to be tuned using a laptop and then after that you let it be.
One more thing though-- I noticed that HKS is selling the volt harness but no volt sensor or anything like that. I've got a pretty limited knowledge so far...does it come with something to measure the volts standard? If so, why would you need the harness? Also, I'm assuming you would need two of the temp. sensors and harnesses for water and oil seperately. True?
Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a fuel pressure gauge. I guess I could add a couple (like fuel pressure and nos pressure later on). Anyway, it's really not too expensive because I was planning on adding a pioneer head unit later on anyway.

Wanted to bump this back up because I've got a question that I think others may be interested in.
Do you think the EMS could accept a line from the HKS CAMP so the EMS doesn't need to use its own sensors? I was thinking that if you needed sensors for both the EMS and the CAMP it would get awefully crowded in the engine bay. Basically I want the EMS to control everything (boost, nos, etc.) so it would need inputs from everything (EGT, UEGO, Boost, Etc.) so it would be really cool if I could somehow integrate the CAMP into the EMS. Like maybe there's a way to plug it in? Can anyone speak to this?

I have the Pioneer Headunit... the system has built in gauges for simple things related to the Gyro sensor for the GPS system, such as lateral Gs (similar to a G-Tech Meter) But I think it's pretty much a toy.
It does have additional AV-ins to plug in a system like the HKS Camp though.

Ya I just basically need a monitor to show the gauges from the CAMP. I figured since I wanted something like that anyway, it would be a good way to simplify the interior of the car.
But now I'm wondering if I could use the CAMP sensors to input the data into the EMS instead of having to get seperate sensors that do the same thing.
How do you like the unit by the way?

It's sweet. I installed it myself... took about 3hrs. I don't have an amp yet so the sound is pretty much factory, but the all-in-one design beats anything else out there...
You'd have to dig into the specs of the CAMP and EMS and find out what voltage ranges the sensors produce. Most of the sensors will produce an analog voltage b/w 0 and 5v or b/w 0 and 10v. find out if they have the same ranges, and calibration. I have a feeling that it might be difficult to get them to work unless there is a calibration function on either the camp or ems, where you can dial in the gauges.
