Mini Battery

What kind of life can I expect out of a typical mini battery on an Evo?

In my experience, it depends mostly on the weather. In the PNW we get some pretty cold weather and it cuts the battery life in half.

I had a Deka ETX-16L. Car was kept outside, generally warm weather although during the winter it did dip below freezing several times. Without a battery tender the battery would pretty much drain in about 24-36 hours to the point it could not crank anymore. With a tender no issues.

The battery lasted me about 2 years before it finally gave up, so I would say if you garage it 5-7 times a week and it doesn't get so cold you can definitely get over a year on it. If you run your car every day then it should be fine without a tender, if you don't you may want to invest in one.

A good brand should last you at least 2 years under general conditions and proper maintenance.

This topic has been hit many times, to sum everything up.... mini batteries and evo's basically suck for the most part. The best thing is to relocate a full size battery in your trunk. You'll find more ppl to have issues than ppl who don't.

I got 5 years out of my AMS mini battery. I had to use a $60 Deltran Motorcycle Battery tender on it to help prolong its life over the long periods of time when I wasn't using the car.

Overall, I think I got my moneys worth.... and just a week ago ordered a replacement battery from AMS. Hopefully this time around I am just as lucky

I had a Shiruken(sp?) mini batt for 2 years before it went bad, and I got it used with the holder. I don't know how long the previous owner had it for, my car has a battery tender on it while it was being stored for ~4months of that period.

I replaced it with a Odyssey PC680, just because I could get one local instore at a Batteries+.

How about relocating the battery to the trunk as suggested then you can use a heavy duty battery like optima, etc?

Well half the reason was to lose some weight so trunk location would be pointless for me. I may make my own holder and buy an odyssey
