How to drive a turbo

Im curious, this being my first Evo and first car with a turbo, what is the best way to launch? I have the GSR. What RPM do you guys rev to before letting the clutch out and do you slip it a lot? I have a Evo X. Thanks

yes, also this is an 8/9 section and u have an X. u drive it like a regular car. it doesnt matter if its turboed or not a car is a car.. dont worry about launching. unless you have an endless pocket to replace all the broken parts from excessive launching...

launching depends on what is done to your car. some launch at higher rpms, some at lower, just figure it out LATER on down the road what revs work such that you dont BOG down or break anything.

Whoops lol,I hit the wrong forum, meant to post it in the X forum. It's 1am, my mind isn't all here. I'm not into drag racing, that's not why I got the Evo, BUT for those rare times getting a good start would be needed I thought I would ask. Mostly because I have read that turbo engines are different as far as when they get their power. I guess this applies to non x models as well but if the Mod wants to move this to the X forum that is cool as well. My mistake for posting here.

You will always have power. Turbo lag will only apply to when you upgrade the turbo past the line of stock frame. For now, just enjoy it, add basic bolt ons. Don't start just launch the car whenever, you will end up needing a new clutch before you know it.

If you launch it right, you'll only wear the clutch and tires. Launch it wrong and you risk damaging the transfer case and differentials. If you thought the clutch was expensive, wait till you learn about the cost of a transfer case. For the most part, rev it to 5K and disengage the clutch just to where it catches. Once it starts inching forwards, let go of the clutch while flooring it. Make sure you don't sidestep or do redline clutch drops. Honestly, launching the car is really hard on the drivetrain so avoid it altogether.

Thanks everybody. You answered my question. Not something I plan on doing but you never know. I baby her from light to light most of the time,if I'm going to abuse her it's in the turns.

Do nottttt simply let go of the clutch. If youre explaining something to someone, you need to be more concise.

"Quickly slip the clutch out" is a better explanation of what to do.

The best thing to do and the easiest on your drive line would be to hold the gas and the clutch down in first and make sure the two step is off so it will be on the rev limiter, then simply slide your foot straight to the left while holding it to the floor until ur foot abruptly slips off the clutch. After that pull ur phone out and call a tow truck.

Avoiding launching in it until you are used to it. Simple as that, if you want to get on it from the light, just ease on the cluth until you get till atleast 5-10 mph then floor it, it's a awd car so it's most likely going to hook.

Search... Time and time again people always ask the same questions. It's not very difficult t search guys! I went through the forums and found some answers to your questions without even searching!

Either way.... Launching the car takes practice. Never just DUMP the clutch. Remember, Either burn the clutch or ruin the transmission, I would rather burn a clutch and perfect the launch. On stock tires I would launch around 5,500 or 6K. I guess it all depends. I launch a little higher due to being on drag radials half the time and i use the slipping method. It all depends on the driver though...
