Question What if you HAD to change up from your favorite oil???

So I was in Advanced Auto the other day and there's two 6" foot tall stacks of Valvoline Racing Oil (VR1) 10W-30 and 20W-50 that were on sale for like $4 a quart. Now I don’t use VR1 but I ask the dude behind the counter “what’s that all about” and he tells me that he has to get rid of it because Valvoline is no longer carrying these products. Has anyone else seen or heard this? When I asked him why he tells me the demand just hasn’t outweighed the supply so the company is going in a different direction; which makes since and even sounds good unless you actually use this stuff in your car right. So that got me wondering about how many Evo guys use VR1. I believe it’s one of the less expensive high zinc content oils on the market next to Penn Grade @ $5-6 a quart or Joe Gibbs @ like $8 (if you can actually find it). I know the majority of the Evo family swears by AMSOIL and depending on your particular turbo/motor setup it might be all but mandatory. However it’s a little pricier… on average it’s between $7-12 a quart along with Mobil 1, 10W-40 and 20W-50. Hell Royal Purple 5W-30 thru 20W-50 will run you about $14 a quart, though I don’t think too many people use it.
So my questions to you all are this:

What are you currently running in your Evo and why? (Turbo recommended, Built Motor, etc.)

If whatever brand of Oil you are using right now or have been using forever was all of a sudden stop being manufactured what would you change to and why? (Be specific i.e. It’s the next best brand, comparable price, best availability… whatever.)

New Addition as of 28 Mar 2012: Who is using or has ever heard of this M7 Super Street GT Oil? http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13329592387731

I have no idea what i would do. Im running Brad Penn 20w-50 now and probably will continue to, its what buschur said to run with his built motor and fpblack. If it was to all of a sudden disappear i would try to look for the next best oil at the best price...haha time for some research

Yeah that VR1 isn't a full synthetic that's why it's cheaper.

I am running Amsoil in my car now because that is what was suggested by Matt of SpecOps for the build that I have. Before the new motor, I ran Mobile 1. So if I had choose another oil other than Amsoil, I would probably go back to Mobile 1.

Keeping M1 HM in the EVO. If it goes off the shelf I'd go to the Rotella T6

The Rotella T6 I use in the misses FXT and my Astra.

I would prob switch to the Castrol 20w50 if Amsoil went out of business. As long as you look at what you are buying there are plenty of good oils. Look for HIGH MILEAGE oils since they have better antiwear additives that work well for high performance uses.

Vr1 is what I run. I dont.have to search all over the damn place to find it either. So yeah it would totally blow if it went extinct.

Better start searching for a amsoil dealer close to me....

How about Total? I use the 10w-50...would probably use Amsoil if Total wasn't available.

Right... But FP recommends it for use with their turbo applications for the high zinc content not the proprietary blend. I believe penn grade is also only part synthetic but I believe it's just as good a quality oil JMHO.
