New clutch
New clutch
I own an 06 Evo 9 SE and I'm going to get a new clutch (just for the hell of it the car only has 36k on it) and my first thought was the act street clutch, but I've heard bad things about lock out..but then I heard the exedy twin disc was the better option...any thought on either would help
I've heard lock out on the act clutches were common but I haven't experienced it at all with my hdss.
I've only heard one twin disk in person. Yea, I heard the clutch. Rather loud at idle and when he was leaving, the clutch engagement was aggressive, sounded like it was falling apart. Might of been just his setup, I dunno.
My clutch install was spendy. So, if you are just doing it for the hell of it, You must have some deep pockets lol.

I bought my Evo 8 with a twin disk...Awesome clutch but very very loud...When i test drove it i didn't notice it but on the way home i sure as hell did and thought the clutch was gonna grenade...After talking to a few people and realizing it's normal i was very relieved...I don't drive my car all that much so i deal with it but for daily driving i would imagine it would get pretty annoying...Not to mention every time i have friends or a chick in my car they are like "What the hell is wrong with your car???" lol Performance wise it's awesome tho
Ha thanks I'm just looking for a nice sturdy clutch to put in that can handle some 400-420 whp...I'm at 342 and by summer I'm doing cams injectors and intercooler with full piping so I'm looking for a nice reliable strong clutch..kinda sucks about the noise with the twin disc

i have a exedy twin but its slipping so i bought a act hdss just for the fact that i daily my car but i wont get it in the car till next month. the twin i love but i get into alot of traffic and that kills it thats why it dosent last to long and from what i hear of the act it locks because of who installed it. not just because of the clutch it self.
I find it so funny when people complain about the noise of a twin disc when they drive an EVO. You drive an EVO, not a cadillac. And the noise isn't that bad depending on which one you get. They all chirp and sometimes have decel noise but my Comp twin isn't bad at all.
To the OP, what plans do you have for the car this summer? What power levels are you expecting. I'd either recommend a twin or the Competition Street clutch over the ACT. It's 50/50 with an ACT...some guys have lock out, some guys don't. English Racing tested Comp's new street clutch with the 3000lb pressure plate and street disc and it seems to hold up very well and no lock out issues! GLW picking your clutch bud!

I too have the ACT HDSS and I have not had a single lockout issue....
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you use the OEM throwout bearing if you go with the ACT HDSS clutch. Great pedal feel (slightly harder than stock but barely noticeable), nice engagement and not loud at all, like no noise...(except the damn ACT throwout bearing). I've had it for almost 60K miles and still slip free on a DD.
